Not what I expected..
I thought from reading the description of the book that this would not only have details about plants and things, but real pictures. It states that it's illustrated, and in the preview they show a few color pages of images of the plants, etc. But they fail to tell you that there are less than 10 pages in the middle of colored real pictures of the items held in the book. I feel that it is not a horrible book, but not a great book by it's self. I think if you had other resources to check what you are foraging, that this book will help you figure out how to prepare a meal with those items. It's not a book that you can just take with you hiking and pick stuff out, unless you already know what these things look like. Like I said, it's not a horrible book there are some good points of it. The recipes will be helpful, and some history is nice to know about the items the book contains. The one HUGE thing is the images, if this book contained all photo images of the items included in it, it would be a fabulous book to take with you. So just an FYI if you want something with images accompanying descriptions and such, this is not the book you want.

Not enough photos
This book is full of good information, and is a very good read, in places. However, if you are looking fot a book to teach you to identify edible flora, this isn't it.With more photos, properly placed, this could be a "top of the list" book.

complete in title is completly misleading
I really blame myself for not taking the time to read the reviews, I was really let down by this book. I saw the word complete in the title and I didn't figure it was satire. First off, it "how to identify" is as poor as someone suggesting the wild picking and consumption of mushrooms I would imagine legally possible. This lack of specific distinguishing information is really important in identifying a lot of food in this book to be safe. Also it really incomplete, and includes a lot of normal cultivated plants, which in my mind was page filler. I guess I could go extensively about how bad this book was, but really all you need to know is look for a title that has academic or organizational support to it and wasn't written as a hobby time killer.

I'd like to have had more photos along-side the cooking tips ...
The pictures are drawings in most cases, except for a small index of color photos. I'd like to have had more photos along-side the cooking tips & recipes. For a survival manual, I'd rather have more emphasis on positive identification, & less emphasis on making it taste gourmet.

I think it leaves a lot of plants out. It talks a lot about cooking and recipes but does not give all of the edible and non-edible species of plants. I'll probably trade it off soon.

Good info!
My wife was flipping through this at Sportsman's Warehouse a while back but we don't like paying full price. Ah, the joys of Amazon used books! Tons of useful info, she loves it!

5 star but be aware this is an American book and many plants are native to the USA and not the UK. That said the author writes well and some of the recipes are fantastic. I didn't realise the USA focus when I bought this and it would have put me off, I would then have missed out on a little treasure.
