Interesting book which gave me lots to think about. I need to read small amounts and ponder it because there is so much in it. A knowledge of the eneagram helps and I suspect it would be harder to read without that.

Sophia
There is much to recommend this book with its definitions and descriptions of feminine power, but, the inclusion of long passages of different unrelated books like Harry potter dilute and distract and feel much like fodder and filler. Also long dissertations of calculus and mathematical theories will appeal only to math majors...a direct and focused approach to Sophia and her worship would have been far more informative and effective.

Notes from an old fisherman
I'm a retired clergyman who watches Nascar and goes fishing. Generally I read books about politics, contemporary theology and American civil religion. (I don't listen to Rush or watch Fox - just to be clear.) So, given that, its quite a leap for me to discover Sophia. 'Guy' theology - the only kind I've ever read - is big into dogma, nails in the cross, verb endings in the New Testament, correct or incorrect theology...the usual that comes from academics who have their roots in traditional thought and masculine assumptions. That is, thinking within the proverbial Box.So here, in 'Sophia - The Feminine Face of God', I was asked to ease up on the Head and go to the Heart. And, it was great fun. (If a book is not fun, then I shy away.)The structure of the chapters was very helpful. It guided me through otherwise esoteric material. But when I had touchstones Speerstra provided (her own journal, architecture, art and a wide variety of symbolism), I got it. Or, got up close enough to Sophia to experience Her. Reading this was like hanging out with a whole new crowd. People, like Speerstra, help you see connections between things we would otherwise pass by.It's late in my life to give Sophia her due, but its never too late. I probably won't read it while watching a car race (though they do drive around Crop Circles.) That, plus the author is easy to read; a delight.Jim Fish.

Loved this book
Loved this book. It so much sounds a lot like the book I published: "Sophia's Web: A Passionate Call to Heal Our Wounded Nature." (Yes, it is on Amazon). As I see it, Karen and I are brother and sister in bringing forth Sophia in the world. I often ask, is She (Sophia, Karen is Her spokesperson) also the New Jerusalem appearing at the end of "Revelation?" Jeru-salem, place of peace. "All Her ways are peace" says the "Book of Proverbs" regarding Sophia. If so, then I think Karen may be one of the messengers for that decent and in her writing is fostering the swelling of "Jerusalem" in our hearts and not in some desert city in the Middle East. Are we in our warring world ready for that? If you feel ready, read this book. Aren't you tired of all the wars, wars between nations, left and right politics, the battle of the sexes, etc.? Are we ready to foster the Peace of Sophia manifesting in this world? If so, then read this book.

Sophia
I first learned of Sophia when I immersed myself in experiencing Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party, one artist's testimonial to the feminine. Speerstra's book, Sophia, certainly expands and enhances an exploration of wisdom and how it appears in our daily life and in the universe. Karen has once again written a book that takes her extensive and eclectic knowledge and reorganizes it around a central concept--this time, Sophia. But this book isn't just about knowledge, it's about reflecting and connecting that knowledge with the heart. And isn't that where it all begins...and ends?

The perspective of a reader from the UK
- From a literary perspective, the book was badly edited and read as a rambling journal which often went off on tangents and had no clear structure. Anecdotal stories were mixed in with journal entries, with insights and poetry, and overwhelmed by fables and case studies. There were so many gems in this book, nuggets of inspiration, but they were so well hidden amongst the verbose ramblings of a journalist, that to access them was like trying to pan for gold. What compounded the situation and greatly diminished from the authenticity of her writing were the objectionable and sweeping journalistic, badly researched statements made, such as those made about St Augustine whom she describes as hating women, or “Muhammed’s Allah is built on… a god who loses his temper, bears grudges and inflicts violent punishment. Muhammed, like Constantine, brought religion at the tip of a sword” (Speestra, 2011, p.36).
