Excellent scribe
Excellent woodworking scribe. Yes, I'll use it as a utility blade once in a while, but the main purpose is the precise scribe line.I thought the curvature might make a 4' scribe line more comfortable, and it does. In addition, the curvature adds an organic element that my hand prefers on a reach.Japanese tool steel. Razor sharpened. Delivers a wonderful thin scribe line out of the package. The steel will hold the same edge through many resharpenings.Better than expected.

Incredibly sharp!
Insanely sharp! Seriously. I have never had anything this sharp in my hands before, it really is incredible. However, I must say that the sheath it comes with is made from a flimsy, transparent, plastic (last pic). This knife would cut through in a split second, no pun intended… Plus being so flimsy it sticks together, and being transparent… anyway, you get the idea: putting it back on can be a bit tricky, to say the least. In reality, it’s just plain dangerous. Again, this knife is sharper that a razor, and any miss would result in predictably painful consequences. So, as you can see in the photos, I made a hard cap for it using my 3D printer. File is available on Thingiverse. Search for "Kiridashi cap"In no way a diss to the knife itself (quite the contrary if you think about it) and by no means a reason not to buy it. Just be warned.I myself am planning on buying the other available models just because I can’t believe the quality for the price, and you never have enough knives anyway… Am I right?

Over all great but Tip broke scribing PLA 3D prints. Read review.
Got for cleaning up my 3d prints, used it twice and tip broke. Pretty sure it's a crap hardened steal because the tip was not that sharp or brittle enough for some plastic. But it is easy to just re-shape and re-sharpen if you know what your doing. I put a 25° angle back on it for durability and sharpness. Pretty sure it was close to 15 to 20° originally. But for time and money I don't have to go get hardened steel and make one my self so over all Pretty happy with it. Metal is finicky anyways.

Just buy it
I don't write reviews, but this item was so exceptional I felt compelled. I have a lot of tools, and I make a lot of things, but I have NEVER experienced a tool that was this enjoyable to use. This thing strips through wood like a peeler skins a potato. It's almost scary how easily the blade moves through the wood (like, this would for sure take a finger off if you were careless). The thickness and curvature of the steel feels great in the hand (I have 'averaged' size hands, so if you've got big 'ol bear paws get a wider blade). Sharpens very easily (due to the blade shape and grind) with a whetstone. This one is a "buy it for life", folks. 10/10. If you do any kind of wood working at all, do yourself a favor and spend $20 on this blade. You will not regret it.

Beautiful, sharp, light-weight, ready-to-use knife
MADE IN JAPAN, excellent quality, ergonomic handle, very light. It looks exactly like the pictures in the listing. The knife arrived very sharp and ready to use. The point is extremely sharp and that is by design since "kiridashi" knives are also used by Japanese woodworkers as "marking tools" (for example, marking the outlines of a butterfly joint). The backside is completely flat. The knife is very easy to sharpen by hand using wet or diamond stones. Coating it with a very light coat of mineral oil or linseed oil is a good idea prior to putting the knife in storage. It can rust if kept for a longer period in a humid environment. It is the kind of tool that can last a life time. It's made for a single piece of steel and there is nothing to brake or malfunction. It can be used for hundreds of jobs and I have come to prefer it to a utility knife. The only inconvenience is that you can't just put this knife in your pocket. If KAKURI made a special "sheath" for it, I'd buy it and carry this kiridashi on me at all times.

With some work you can improve this
The grind is poor and not flat. Overall not very good craftsmanship but the steel isn't bad. You can make this into a pretty good little knife if you re grind it yourself...

Useful, Multipurpose, Good Looking...
Ordered this for a specific use, marking wood for the saw, and have found it useful for many other things not related to woodworking (like precise paper cutting and sharpening pencils for example). So useful. Much more comfortable to use than the standard "hobby knife". Can sharpen and reuse so no used blades to deal with. Plus, it looks good! Recommend keeping this oiled to prevent rust. Comes already sharpened so be careful. I bought the one with the curved handle and have found it more comfortable, with greater control and leverage. This is strictly a matter of taste however.
