Banjo and mandolin are happy!
This mic, tried once, works well to amplify my mandolin and banjo. Had to wrangle it on but the clip on the mic is sturdy and grabs well. A SM57 just wasn't cutting it, esp. with the banjo. I play clawhammer and need more room to flail and kept bumping the 57. This little guy can be placed in different places and so is pretty adjustable. Nice. You do need 48v Phantom power however. Most mixing boards have that. Otherwise you are on you own buy a power supply thingy.

Excellent build quality, design, and sound.
Exceptional design and build quality from the spring clip, goose neck, cable clips to the wind-screen / shock-mount and, of course the mic capsule itself. Oh, also the XLR mini to XLR standard adapter with switchable low rolloff.Sounds wonderful clipped to my lapel and aimed at my calimba (thumb piano). Provides really usable rich-toned pickup across a wide selection of input levels, from deep resonant tones to the high-pitched scratching of my rough fingers sliding off the metal keys or the snap of my fingernail coming off.Since it's promoted as a good high SPL pickup, I'm looking forward to clipping to congas and getting focused pickup of each drum for better tones and ability to mix my own soundstage or use one rhythm part for backing in other songs, later on down the road.I was weighing these vs. the AKG C411's for instrument pickups, and chose these for being more versatile, and this kit includes the mini-XLR adapter so I'll have that in my kit to work for future mic purchases.

Great for trumpet!
With proper adjustment, this makes an awesome bell-mounted microphone for trumpet. The clip is padded and hasn't marred my Bach trumpet at all, which is nice. It does pick up a little valve noise, which is to be expected, but the internal shock mounting is way better than I had hoped. Very usable! I've been using it with a mic pre/phantom power from a mixing board to get it up to line level, then injecting it into various guitar pedals. Which is WAY too much fun...

Fragile cable.
I’ve had a couple of these over the years for fiddle. Sounds great. But it a a bit fragile. You gotta baby it a bit. The mini XLR cable is just a very fine set of leads in a small package. I agree with the other reviewer who referred to the awkward nature of having the heavy phantom/xlr adapter dangling off your instrument. I never had a perfect solution to that. And this issue complicates the fragility of the micro cable. Also, I just clip it to the side of my chin rest and that puts it easily right above the bridge. Easy peasy.

Great value mic for violin
Great value in a mic for violin. I use it also on an octave violin and it picks up the bass freqs just fine. Nice, clean, authentic sound. I don't prefer the clip-on mount that comes with the mic. I use instead the AT violin mount, a velcro job that positions the mic under the strings behind the bridge. Best placement I've found for sound on my instrument. You need to remove the windscreen for the velcro mount, though, which is not generally a problem unless you're a heavy breather right down the tailpiece.

Good function
Item does what it is supposed to do. May seem a little pricy, but you can always find this for a reduced price on Amazon...just be patient and keep searching. I recently purchased a second unit, giving the second mic to my Church for their upright bass. I use the first one myself on my own upright, running the sound through either a PA or amp. Both have good sound with this mic.

Very good sound.
A bit difficult to attach to the bridge of the violin, but workable.
