Great Model Dinosaurs (Not for Rough Play)
I've bought the entire Papo T. rex family: the green walking rex, a more upright brown rex and two baby rexes: one green and one brown. Some paleontologists have speculated that females might have been larger than males, so I named the larger brown rex "Sue" after the famous fossil and the slightly smaller green rex "Fang" because he has a bottom tooth that sticks out. This tooth (had he been a full-sized, living dinosaur) would have created a space between his teeth and a "slot" in his premaxilla similar to the fourth tooth slot found on the jaws of crocodiles. "Fang" has a space between his teeth and a slot in his upper jaw for his crooked bottom tooth. Now that's a toy with personality! All of the models are fairly accurate and very detailed with good paint jobs, which is pretty amazing considering they are mass-produced. I have only a few minor complaints / suggestions: 1) The green "running" T. rex looks like he's walking, not running. Big whoop. You can decide for yourself by looking at the picture. 2) I am actually surprised at how well my walking T. rex balances. Maybe I just got a good one or balance is less of an issue for me. Still, a little one might get frustrated by how easily the walking dino topples. 3) The paint job on Papo dinos seems to scratch more easily than the paint job on Schleich dinos. (Schleich comes in second behind Papo when it comes to detail and believable paint jobs.) I didn't notice this right away because my dinos sit on a shelf and serve as models for my paleo art. My five-year-old cousin, on the other hand, is pretty rough on her dinos. I gave her a brown Papo T. rex on a Friday and by the end of the weekend she had managed to scuff him up so the underlying pinkish-brown color showed through on his eyebrows, nose and other vulnerable body parts. 4) T. rex probably had at least a few feathers for display purposes. This would not detract from their fearsomeness. It's about time toys started reflecting what we know about dinosaurs. 5) Almost every single toy gets the hand orientation wrong. The arms of most theropod dinosaurs would have functioned similarly to wings. The elbows and wrists had hinge joints that were more or less parallel to one other. With hands held out straight in front, the palms would have faced one another. 6) The green T. rex totally needs a small prey item to dangle from his mouth. When the Papo T. rex family is together, the babies are looking up, begging for food. The upright T. rex guards the babies while the green T. rex brings food. Therefore, the green rex *needs* a detailed, contemporaneous prey item that fits perfectly in his teeth! ;) Papo, please make one for him. 7) The jaw on the walking T. rex is floppier than the jaws on the other T. rexes. It only has two distinct positions: all the way open and completely shut. The jaw is held shut by the crooked bottom fang / upper jaw slot, so it flops open quite easily. The mouths on the other T. rexes are much more posable. 8) Baby T. rexes probably had a lighter build and a layer of fluffy down. Other than that, these toys are great, both for collectors and for somewhat careful children whose dinosaur battles don't get too rough.

One of the best Jurassic Park-based T-Rex figurines available!
When i was a kid, i had the 2005 Green PAPO T-rex, along with the Spino and a velociraptor. I have such a vivid memory of these things, and how excellent and realistic they looked due to their detailed paint job and sculpts. For the sake of the nostalgia and remembering how awesome these things were, i decided to order the brown T-Rex (I could not find the 2005 green version, much to my dismay). Just wow… somehow even better than i remember. This thing is gorgeous, and when compared to a lot of high-end options, this 27USD figure stands toe to toe, being safe for any budget, while not sacrificing a collector’s knack for quality and realism. It’s heavy and doesn’t feel fragile or poorly molded. I think these photos i took speak for themselves, even if they don’t do it justice. It’s big and imposing, and looks beautiful on display. This is a must own, and i will be splurging on more of the PAPO figures offered here.

This King is dead, long live the King!
This is without question, the greatest T-Rex statue/model ever released on a major scale. Yes, there are boutique, and wallet-smashing offers from companies such as Sideshow Collectables...but this little T-Rex offers similarly high levels of detailing, subtle coloration/washing, and great proportion to form what we see here: a masterpiece. It also offers something else that Sideshow doesn't: VALUE. For under $20 (I got mine for a shade under $16 with free Amazon shipping w/the Papo Triceratops, natch), about the cost of a disposable new-release DVD, you can have a nice little terror on your shelf that will break the ice and start a conversation with guests. Friends so far can't help but pick the little Tyrant Lizard King up when they see him sitting on the shelf, glaring up at them. He he. I hate to go with the flow of nearly every review here, but this time I must join the echo-chamber of Borg-like opinion: this T-Rex is perfect. It has a quality "heft" to it that all Papos possess. It also looks fantastic on my bookshelf next to all my dinosaur books. Forget Safari, Schleich, CollectA, etc. They are all similarly unimpressive, and lacking in detail. Go Papo, and never look back. Get one today, for the kid in us all, no matter if you are a youngin'...or closer to 65 million years old.

Impressive Quality
It's rare that a product exceeds expectations. With this Papo Tyrannosaur, however, that's exactly what happened. I bought this as a gift for my 5-year-old nephew, who was having a dinosaur themed birthday. Given the other reviews, I already had decent expectations, which made it all the more impressive that this product exceeded them. My nephew was quite excited with the Tyrannosaur, and despite his parents' initial hesitation, he has been allowed to have the toy with him in bed at night. Apparently the vicious nature of the Tyrannosaur makes him feel safe from anything else that might scare him! The rubbery material used to make the product means it is both durable and safe for a 5-year-old to play with. I saw him banging and stabbing the T-Rex, which seemed to hold up with no problem. Despite my nephew's enthusiasm for the toy, I'm quite certain it cannot match my own enthusiasm. The detail and accuracy is amazing. Upon seeing the product first-hand I decided I had to have my own. It turns out the model makes for a great subject for photography, especially experimenting with different light setups. The Tyrannosaur is fun to photograph, and will likely prove an invaluable reference for modeling a computer model of the animal in MAYA. I also purchased the Allosaurus, as the reviews for that product were equally impressive, if not more so. I hope to have both soon.

The figure deserves each of the five stars I've given it. Indeed feels like a trophy, as another reviewer has described it. Arrived today, which is two days ahead of the expected date of arrival. So I can't complain on that either. But I was horrified with the packing! Its a mystery to me how Mr Rex has survived the journey with all his limbs/tail intact. Anyway, it was in this small cardboard box with barely a few air bags to protect it. The first thing I noticed upon opening the box was its curved tail, touching the side of the box. Either the courier took great care to ensure that the box wasn't bumped or pressed from outside, or Rex is even tougher than he looks! I think he's made of some kind of hard rubber, the slender parts have a little flexibility. The lower jaw is articulated, and when you push the mouth close, the lower teeth snugly fit inside the upper arch - just too perfect, I can barely look away!

Papo rockt!

My 3 year old who loves dinosaurs fell in love with this. He plays very rough with it, and the paint has only been damaged very little despite a lot of rough play, very happy with it.
