Excellent Heavy Duty Pen Built to Last
UPDATE:Using the plastic part attached to the back of the Rite in Rain ink cartridge makes the Fisher Space pen refill work the exact same. The dimensions of the cartridge are seemingly exactly the same.UPDATE:I had thought the clip might be too stiff and the pen too heavy to hold in the front shirt pocket but I haven't had any issues with either. It stores just fine in the shirt pocket.I have been looking for a heavy duty clicky pen for a while now but never found anything I liked until I saw this. The problem with the other pens for me was that they were either twist off caps which meant I wouldnt use them as often or they were just too bulky and looked too much like weapons. While this pen has an aggressive style it still looks like a pen and has the basic shape of one.It isn't too thick or bulky despite being a little heavy which is expected from the sturdy steel used in it. It is about average length for a standard sized pen and just a few mm thicker throughout unless you're comparing a sumo grip pen which is of course much thicker. With it's weight I wouldn't be putting this in my shirt pocket because it is substantial compared to other pens but the tradeoff is solid materials and solid construction. If feels very comfortable to write with regardless of the weight, however, you wouldn't catch me writing novels with it. The grip cutouts throughout the length of the pen do a good job providing grip while being cut well and not being sharp. I'm not all that familiar with the Rite in Rain ink cartridge but it writes very well and is very reminiscent of the Fisher space pen cartridges in writing ink flow and physical size and shape of the cartridge as it is also pressurized like the space pen. I haven't test whether or not the space pen refill will work yet but looking at the two it would seem a little modification at most would make it fit well. The spring in the click works well and feel heavier than a normal pen spring. It isn't particularly loud for and there is not a loud and specific click but there is a sound from the metal button sliding into and out of the pen when compressing it. The pocket clip is sturdy and stiff and could be a problem for your favorite jean pockets if not careful but it is simple and incorporated well into the design of the pens cutouts. Where the pen is sturdy and solid the clip matches.I won't speak to the "tactical" nature of the pen much but it does of course have a glassbreaker on the tip. It doesn't interfere with writing at all and I suppose it is nice to have it included. If you were to use this in a defensive situation, I can say it will hold up far better than any standard pen. The threads are strong, sturdy and go deep into the pen from the tip and from the rear. It would take a lot of effort for someone to break this pen.Overall I really like the pen and all of its features. I'd really like to see a titanium version to bring down the weight of the pen even if it drove the price up substantially. I'd also like an option to use a different tip without the glassbreaker. It would be horrible to end up in a situation where you need it and have this pen without the glassbreaker, but I would expect the sturdy tip to be able to help as well. Either way, I would have liked the option. If they release this exact pen in titanium I would pick it up without question. As it stands, it is a great pen and an easy recommendation from me and my initial thoughts. Should I see reason to update the review I will and am able to answer questions about it.

Great Pen
Very heavy. When you have it to somebody they always say "wow" before they use it. That's because it's so solid and feels unlike any other out there.Pros:Very sturdy. The click is solid and the spring is beefy. You can n take off the clip if you want. The more beat up it gets the better it looks. It can take a lot of punishment.Cons:It's heavy, so writing with it for extended periods is tough. There is something odd about the click. I've taken it apart several times but I can't find the issue. 1 out of 10 times when you click the button to stow the tip the button gets hung up slightly. It's almost like you need to break it in and wear something down a bit. I have yet to be able to find it or break that party in. I'm not fond of the insert, I tool it out and replaced it with a Fisher space pen refill. I would actually prefer to have it be gel.Last comment is the glass breaker tip. It's very difficult to write when it essentially has two tips on it. Also, I carry it by everywhere and don't want it confiscated or questioned. I personally don't see the need to have a weapons tip. Using it without the glass breaking tip will get you in less trouble than stabbing somebody. The thing is solid so even without it you could hurt somebody. I carry the pen and a an old school pocket knife every day. What I did is file down the glass breaker. You can do this and it just disappears into the rest of the body. Problem is the end cap will no longer be black so you need to pre-beat up the open to match by sanding off the paint here and there. In my opinion it looks cooler. If you want something impressive get this pen. If you want something cool but lighter get b the bullet pent by Fisher.Note: I bought this after I sat on my original click style Fisher Price pen and dented the barrel at the ball bearing so it will no longer retract. I needed something to use while that was being repaired. I like the Gerber better now I think.

Worth the $$$
Is the pen pricey, yes. Should that stop you no. I used to lose pens all the time now I know when this thing is in my uniform shirt pocket or not. It is on the initial ink cartridge and I use it daily. Over three months on patrol for all field notes and even a month or two in the academy. Some reviews say the glass Breaking tip interfere with writing I tend to hold the pen pretty straight and it hasn’t been an issue. This pen is easy to hold in the rain and paired with write in the rain notepads I can still write in weather. The pen is easy to hold with gloves and I haven’t had an issue with it ripping nitrile. I am also happy that it is made in the USA. The clip is strong hasn’t bent at all. The upper cap did loosen maybe an 1/8 of a thread but I did try to take it apart when I first got it to see how it was made. I just tightened it back up. They used loctite on the threads so they didn’t plan on me removing the top portion anyway. The finish has been wearing but it sits next to a handcuff hey that has serrations and that’s my fault for having them in my pocket. I love that I can’t break this pen. Even the click it makes you know it’s solid. I will be buying another and as you can see I’m not shy about giving this pen the review it deserves. The pen is heavy but I’m hard on equipment and like how heavy and solid it is. I thought it would be uncomfortable to write with and maybe if I was an author I would select something else but knowing that while taking field notes I could use it as a weapon is nice. Does it have a stylus and a light like other pens, no. I didn’t buy it for that. I have a pocket light and I am not a stylus kind of guy anyway. You want a badass pen that Happens to be able to break glass and double as potential dagger then this pen is what you should add to your gear.
