ironreview.wordpress.com - ANTOPY Pull-Up Bar
ironreview.wordpress.com/2021/02/19/antopy-pull-up-bar/Lets kick things off with an easy one. In an ideal world, you’d have a power rack. That’s not in debate.Unfortunately it’s not an ideal world, and I don’t have space for a 6 post behemoth tower with an integrated lat-pull down and a multitude of parallel bars in my London flat, which forces me to come up with all sorts of interesting solutions for simple problems. I also don’t have a dedicated room/garage/space for lifting that I used to. That means I cant fix a pull up bar to the wall. Everything permanent has to look nice (so I am told). This leaves me with two options – find somewhere to do pull ups on something unconventional, or buy an extending bar that can be easily put up and taken down. Given the snow outside when I made this purchase, buying was an easy decision. I have pocket doors, so a door frame hook type one wasn’t an option. After lots of research, I didn’t let the absurd name put me off and I decided on this one. £42.99 in December 2020 with Amazon prime free next day delivery. As with any re-branded, oddly named Chinese fitness product, a pinch of salt has to be taken with the claimed characteristics. I weigh 100kg at 6’1. The key factor for me was the weight rating, which too many cheap Chinese made products can embellish to say the least.I had a good space for it – 90cm (within the 65-100cm extending range) in the hallway from my front door. There is a very effective and simple locking mechanism that involves rotating the central tube clockwise to extend the two nested tubes outwards, adding pressure to the walls. You then slide the plastic clips in to prevent the central tube from turning and releasing the pressure. It is very effective, and I can’t see a reason that this would readily fail or wear over time.Thankfully, I do fully believe this product could hold the stated 150kg once set up correctly. Firstly, if you are 150kg and banging out sets of pull ups (Martins Licis I am looking at you), fair play. For those who don’t weigh that much but are planning on strapping weight on, I think this bar is capable of it. I am able to throw myself around as much as possible, with only a slight flex noticeable. The pads don’t cause damage to the wall from what I have found, but are better suited to solid structure than drywall for the obvious pressure the bar exerts. I have it mounted between one brick and one drywall, and the drywall has held up fine. Aim for a stud if you can.Unfortunately the only downside is the available bar to grip. The three pads are on the central bar centred, left and right – but only spaced circa 50cm apart. This is great for supinated or pronated, bicep focused pull ups, but not anywhere near a wide enough grip for lat engagement. You can hold the outer pipes for an ideal width, but they are narrow and smooth, making gripping them less than ideal. They are too narrow to use with any fat-grip style barbell add ons.The most important factor of kit you keep in your house, where space is at a premium compared to the gym, is how many different uses you can get out of it. There’s not many bits of kit that will allow as many uses as a parallel bar – other than a barbell of course.Whilst pull ups are the primary use for this, simply having a a parallel bar while training opens up a whole variety of home gym hacks. With some bands Tricep pull downs, and even lat pull downs are possible. I got inventive with a pulley system, but there was too much stretch and friction with rope and I was better off with bands.I really like this piece of kit. It’s not cheap for a Chinese product like it is, but compared to many of the similar bars on Amazon, the weight rating is what stands it apart and the build quality is perfectly adequate for what it is. Maybe don’t kip around like a cross fitter though.JW

Easy install, very sturdy.
Not sure why many people mentioned that it's difficult to install. Actually it's pretty straight forward. It's sturdy and does the job very well. Also there is a safe lock so over time it won't lose its tightness.

Quality bit of kit
Brilliant bit of kit, at first I was unsure about purchasing a pull up bar which you don’t have to screw into the door frame, but I took a chance with this product and I can’t highly recommend it. I have been using it now everyday for the last few weeks and I have had no issues with this holding my weight (82kg), or any fear of the product slipping off the side of the door frame. The hand grips are very comfortable and you are able to use wide and close grip pull up/chin up techniques.I have found myself using this product throughout the day and everyday. The price is very reasonable and again I would recommend it, it does not leave any marks on the door frame and is very sturdy. I would recommend using gloves when using this product and inevitably you can develop calluses. Overall a good product.

Solid and does the trick!
I bought this after much deliberation looking for a chin up bar. Being 6’5” and carrying 110kgs I was looking fir something solid and easy to use. Very pleased with the purchase. Been using for let-me-ups and let-me-ins and tested fir chin-ups. Spot on. Once your worked out how to unscrew each end and adjust the collars, you are all set.

Ok
Very difficult to set up but it does perform its function pretty well. It's function is to hold your weight while you do pull ups. So it accomplishes that but it's not perfect.

Straconsigliato

Doesn't work
It was terrible. It wouldn't sit straight no matter what door and it didn't stay up when we finally found a door that it even fit. It was impossible to tighten and then basically held no weight
