Amazing
I bought this headunit knowing Sony makes good products so I expected it to be good, but man this thing blew me away. The sound from this unit is great, crisp clear audio and you don’t even have to have the volume that high for it to be loud. I have 4 skar super tweets and 4 6.5 loudspeakers paired with a 12 inch sub and this thing brought my system to a whole new level of loud. The mids and highs just scream now with more clarity than ever, the subwoofer hits super hard now too I have to have my bass knob back at half now lol.DSO sounds good too helping bring up the sound staging as I have my speakers and tweeters mounted fairly low on my door panels it really makes a difference. HPF and LPF are a great feature too, 13 band eq would have been nice to see but 10 is plenty to get the right sound5v pre amp rca outputs are another big plus, one of the main reasons I chose the 5500 over the 3200 as I’m running a sub and plan to add another amp for the door speakersThe capacitive touch screen is a must in my opinion, the picture clarity, responsiveness to touch, and viewing angles is just so much better than the resistive atoto screen I had before. The brightness is also perfect, bright enough in the day where you can see it and not blinding bright at night (another issue I had with the atoto)The fitment is spot on, this unit is a true double din unlike some units that are advertised as double din, so it was a perfect drop in plug n play with the scosche double din dash kit in my 2001 suburban with no extra modification. It also has a single din sized back so it frees up a little space if need beBoot up times are quick maybe 3-4 seconds after the truck is on the radio is on and going, wired CarPlay and android auto work great i just ran a dual usb pass through in-place of one of my 12v cig outlets for a clean look, and Bluetooth connects great and sounds greatOverall I highly recommend this unit. this unit was priced at $316 at the time of purchasing and that price making it one of the “cheaper” of name brand CarPlay units it is well worth every penny.Side note if you want to watch videos or use WebLink to stream your phone you need to ground the parking brake cable, I just grounded mine to a chassis ground and it works just fine that way

Good choice
Pondered getting the Sony 5500 for a few weeks. Did a lot of internet research before buying. So far happy with the choice.Installed in a 2011 Toyota Rav4 base model. Installation is relatively straightforward. Trim kit is inexpensive for the Rav.Setup isn't complicated. Android Auto works well. Navigation works well. Amazon music works ok but did have a minor glitch which I believe is a Amazon issue not Android auto. I think it was just a settings issue. Nice feature is being able to adjust the camera grid lines...especially nice as the rear camera needs to be mounted off to one side on a series 3 Rav4.Surface mounted the 2 USB inputs in the center console. Microphone mounted over rear view mirror. All in all very clean looking Installation.Sound quality very good. Better than stock radio. Touch screen works very smoothly.

Audio Upgrading Made Easy
My wife sold her vehicle and picked up this 2009 Honda CR-V LX. She wanted a touchscreen receiver that was back up camera compatible. I know Sony's reputation for reliable products. I worked at one of the local mobile electronic and installation stores. Sony has pretty user friendly head units. Setting up the Bluetooth was quick. The Bluetooth microphone was easy to install on the A-Pillar. Adding the backup camera was also a snap. I like the single din mount of the radio with the double din screen. The sound is quite good coming from the built in amp. The eq settings allow you to shape the sound for the vehicle acoustics. Adding external amps is done with the 3 sets of RCA pre-outs. Two USB inputs are included on the rear. The front face is pretty slick, with a row of buttons along the bottom edge. Once you acquire the right dash kit, wire harness, and antenna adapter for your vehicle, installation is easy and simple. I recommend this Sony receiver if you're looking for an upgrade to your existing stereo.

Connection Issues
This unit has constant connectivity issues when wired. Multiple wires have been used. Multiple phones have been used. You can reconnect the cable several times until the CarPlay connects. Sometimes lagging by a long time, but phone shows good charging.Any movement or even non-movement will cause the CarPlay to disconnect only to have you plug in and out many times while you drive.I understand that it may be an issue only to my unit, but that is what I’m reviewing. My unit. I’d give it 2 stars, but for the amount of money paid, this should be working all the time.

Every Vehicle Should Have One
Upgraded to this head unit from a Pioneer unit without Apple CarPlay. I work for a hospice company so I am always seeing new patients spending a lot of time on the road. Using Apple Maps on the unit screen is simply awesome. No issues whatsoever. Updates on traffic, accidents, alternate routes.Apple CarPlay works flawlessly as does Siri, Spotify etc. I don’t know how I did without it. Changing any song, playlist, directions, phone calls, text messages. My other unit did some of this as well but not nearly as consistent and smoothly as this Sony unit does. It’s pretty easy to set your own wallpaper on the deck if you like to personalize as I do. Sound is great but it will depend on what speakers you have.
