Great game
My wife and I play this with our 6 year old and she absolutely loves it and so do we, we'll worth buying perhaps one day will play the original with her when she's older.

Easy to play.
Cons: shipping and delivery was delayed. Pros: looks to be a fun game with a great concept. Easy to teach and suitable for from 8+.

Two phases too many
We regularly have game nights and this one missed the mark for us. When a board game has three sets of rules booklets that will increase the barrier to entry. If we had been familiar with the game this is a variation of perhaps we would have had more success. Too complex to be fun. We tried it a couple of times with a group of teenage to adults and nobody liked it. It's a board game where you create the board as you play and there are two phases where after exploring the mansion and grounds one of you then plays the villain and the mystery begins. There's a set of rules for the scooby gang mysteries, a set for the various possible villains and a overall how to play separate rules set. Good luck reading. Perhaps a better game to be taught than read? It is however a quality made product with cardboard tiles and pieces. Just not our cup of tea.

We loved this game. We already liked the more complex Betrayal at the House on the Hill game. This simplifies things, but only a little bit, so the game mechanic is not lost. It is good for older kids, not the little ones. Box says 8+ for age- I agree and add that it depends on the emotional/ behavioral maturity of the 8yr old. Our 8yr old in question probably should wait a year. We test played it 2x before deciding who we should invite to the table to play. We will plan on running a different game for the younger kids. I loved the Scooby Doo theme and so did my older son who watched the show. For kids that never watched Scooby Doo, it might be less exciting.

I had bought this for my son for a Christmas gift. Based on reading the instructions, this game was a tad confusing to learn and figure out - I ended up watching a YouTube video of someone playing the game and that was a tremendous help! Once I had see someone else play we were able to play. And it was a blast. We had a great time with this game and was a great family fun activity. I highly recommend it. I have a 9 and 7 year old. The 7 year old was able to keep up- but she would not be able to be the role of the monster on her own. I would say even my 9 yr old struggled a bit- with the reading and trying to understand everything. All and all it was a fun activity and I think aged 10-12 would be best suited for this game.

A fun Scooby Doo themed game for game night. Easier to learn this than the main betrayal game.

I love the original Betrayal at House on the Hill, and got this for my sister because we loved Scooby Doo growing up. There aren't any young kids in our family, but it was very well thought out to adapt the original game for new and young players. Part of the difficulty with Betrayal is the need to separate for the Haunt. In this version, the Haunt can be learned together, and you choose who plays the Monster. No one can be eliminated from the game, only stunned for a turn. I would also say that so far, the Haunts seem more balanced than the original. If you're a fan of Betrayal, there are a lot of rule differences, but all of them make sense thematically and help make the game kid-friendly. There's also a nice summary page in the rulebook that outlines the major differences. If you haven't played Betrayal, the rulebook is comprehensive and you'll pick it up pretty quick!
