No definitely not, Ferrocerium contains some magnesium but is unstable & when hit by any metal object it will spark. "Ferrocerium (also known in Europe as Auermetall) is a synthetic pyrophoric alloy of mischmetal (cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, other trace lanthanides and some iron – about 95% lanthanides and 5% iron) hardened by blending in oxides of iron and/or magnesium. When struck with a harder material, the mixture produces hot sparks that can reach temperatures of 3,315 °C (6,000 °F) when rapidly oxidized by the process of striking the rod. Striking both scrapes fragments off, exposing them to the oxygen in the air, and easily ignites them by friction heat due to cerium's remarkably low ignition temperature of ~170 °C (338 °F)." You can buy 100% magnesium rods where you can try do what you want to. Magnesium is a very soft metal and is also unstable if you melt it. In outdoor situations you can shave off slivers of it and use as a combustible item, either using a flint napping method, a Ferrocerium rod, matches or a lighter. Hope this helps

None of it glows! It’s a magnesium rod! The sparks you get by striking it will ‘glow’ but only for a second before they die out.
