Very Impressed
Bought to replace my old petrol mower that died. I already have Makita batteries for 6 other tools so took a chance as I like the build and performance quality Makita offers. I have used it more than 10 times now on my lawn and my Son's and it is a pleasure to use. The height adjustment is easy and the machine is light (16kg) and easy to maneuver with roller bearings on all 4 wheels. The 380mm cutting width is quite generous for a machine of this size and it cuts to within 15mm of the edge of the body. Battery performance seems really good given the power it produces and I have cut 3 x 70m squared lawns on one charge with the 5Ah batteries indicating around 50% charge left and taking 40mins each to charge back to 100%. Battery insertion/replacement is easy. The grass box (Bag) is easy to attach and remove and is quite generous, only emptying twice on a 70m2 lawn. There is a mulching plug available for this machine but I have no intention of using one. I have remembered to register it for the 3-year warranty.

Cordless mower
So simple to assemble, usual makita quality. I like how easy it is to clean afterwards, no stupid nooks and crannies to trap grass like my previous mowers, so a simple hand brush is enough. It’s light to push and can cope with very damp grass. One lever to give many different heights, so start long to see how short you want to go, or if the grass has been left a long time or is very wet. There’s a removable safety ‘key’ so safe around children if the batteries are in. Overall, it’s excellent

Makita cordless 18x2
The reason I choose the Makita because sharing of battery are possible, and this 380cm width is good enough for my little patio.

Overall very good with a minor compromise.
Overall, this is an impressive machine. It was very quick and easy to put together, and fantastically simple to push around my garden. The only thing it struggles with is tall damp grass which a petrol mower would plow through more easily. I simply adjusted the width of each pass, but then the batteries didn’t do as much. Nevertheless, as we’re powered by the sun at home now, having rechargeable batteries do the work is too good to pass up. I’d buy this again, tho’ if I could’ve afforded it, would’ve gone one size up.

No wires, brilliant!
Fed up of wires, got makita batteries? This machine makes light work of my front, side and rear gardens... the run time with x2 5ah is around 30-40 minutes. For me I'm not so interested in that because I have 9 batteries altogether, so battery rotation is possible. The range for Height selection is good.I find the machine lightweight, easy to use - basically plug in your battery pull the lever and go.Unlike the chainsaw I purchased, this machine won't disappoint.

Excellent bit of kit
I was looking to change my petrol mower which I brought with me when I moved. The garden in the new house has a small lawn and the petrol machine was no longer required. I intended to move to a battery machine as I can't stand trailing cables so I (as always when buying new equipment) checked the Which? reports and the one for this machine were not particularly good. I then read the reviews on here and they painted a whole different picture. As I already have a lot of Makita cordless kit and the quality has always been excellent, coupled with the Amazon reviews, I bought one.As it turned out it was an excellent choice. It is much quieter than the petrol machine but just as good, or in fact better, at cutting the grass. I ran it for about 25 minutes and the battery that had started with a full charge was still showing full with 4 lights and the one I'd been using quite a lot on a drill still had 2 lights, so it could have probably gone on for another 25 minutes. The machine is very light and easy to manoeuvre and the height is easily adjusted. I can't comment on the grass box as I don't use it.All in all, very pleased with its overall performance and I don't think I could have got a better machine for the money (I notice in the couple of weeks since I bought it it has gone up about £20 but still worth it).

Really Good Mower
Some time ago I needed a new mower as the mower that had failed used a dedicated battery and I wanted something that had a standard, easy to obtain, battery which could also be used for other kit. I had a lot of DeWalt kit but their mower was too expensive so looked at Makita. The mower I purchased has proved to be really good and I have since bought Makita hedge trimmer and grass edge trimmer as I can now buy bare units and use the same batteries. The purchase of this, my second Makita mower, was because I live in a town house on a hill and carrying the mower backwards and forwards from front to back up and down a lot of stairs was a real nuisance. As I already had a stock of Makita batteries this mower was a a sensible and low priced option as I was able to buy a bare unit. The mower is close to identical to my rear garden one, just being a little narrower. It was easy to assemble. It just being a case of bolting the handle on and, as expected, does a great job and is easy to store standing up in the corner of the garage. One point that needs repeating though is that this is a bare unit without batteries and charger. Every time I look at bare units on Amazon for DeWalt or Makita there are one star reviews complaining that there was no battery or charger, although it is always clearly noted on the sales page. If you don't have Makita batteries and buy this you will find the cost of the required two batteries and a charger will be a least as much as the mower price.

Great lawn mower
I'm very impressed with this lawnmower. I converted to battery a few years ago but the German one I had failed after 2 years. Being makita I expect better of this. And it has a 3 year warranty. Its heavy and the dual 18v batteries give lots of power on a medium lawn. Curs really nicely and the grass collector works well and holds 40l.

Gut
