Identity crisis, false advertising, or just people who don't understand noise. 27dB NRR: NOT 30
These earmuffs suffer from an identity crisis. The box in the picture is the same for 3 types of earmuffs. And they've cherry picked the best noise reduction rating in the product description. But you're purchasing the lowest (worse) rated earmuffs.THE TRUE NRR of these earmuffs is ONLY 27dB!Decibels are a logarithmic scale, so a small change in number reflects a large change in noise. For example, if the sound a person can hear is 10dB, that would be a noise that would rate a "10" on a linear scale (10 to the first power). If you have a sound that is rated 100dB, that sound would be 10 to the TENTH Power, or 10,000,000,000 on a linear scale. Most labs will say that a 3dB increase "doubles" the sound impulse. Now, your brain isn't sensitive enough to determine if a noise is truly twice as loud, let alone 1,000,000,000 times louder, but the noise impulses do damage as you get into the 120 + dB levels.Ergo, a set of earmuffs that lower sound by 34dB are much better than a set that only reduce the noise by 30dB.Also, the product description and even the rating on the front of the box are a bit deceptive. Please see my letter below. In the end, I'll keep these for mowing the lawn, etc. They fit my children as well, and that's a plus.Below is the letter I wrote to Hayswell, the Amazon Market seller:"Thanks for checking up on the ear muffs. I must to say I have mixed feelings about them. The front of the box carries the European SNR rating of 30dB, while the actual ratings on the side of the box (tested at US / OSHA/ANSI standards for frequencies checked) lists an NRR of only 27dB.Worse, the comments section for this item on Amazon.com lists both a 30dB and a 35dB rating. I understand you don’t have complete control of the comments made, however, a clearer listing of the actual NRR would have been beneficial. This is important to me as I’m currently working on a specific noise reduction system and have gotten pretty deep into the science of noise impulses and the current limitations on how those SPLs are measured. Thus, I understand that a 3dB difference is equal to almost a doubling of the sound impulse. The human brain may not perceive this difference as “doubling” or “halving”, but the damage to the ear is what I’m focusing on.I will probably keep the earmuffs as they do tend to fit my children. They are rather tight on my petite wife’s head, but that tension is probably required to seal the cuffs.Again, thank you for the follow up. If you have any control of the pictures presented on Amazon’s website, please add the side panel of the box with the NRR tests."

Comfortable but tight
Sound Blocking is excellent on these, Headband is comfortable and ear padding is also comfortable. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the tension on the headband is way to tight causing the ear cups to really press hard against your face and just under your ear against your jaw.The only way these could be very comfortable is to somehow get some of that tight tension off the band. I'm going to try opening them on something and leaving them stretched out for a few days and see if that helps. It's too bad, because other than the tight fit they would be great. The only other comfortable ones to wear are those electronic type noise cancelling kind like Phillips and Sony, but I doubt they would cut out sound as well as these do.

Great for woodworking
I've had these a while now and use them often while woodworking. They are pretty comfortable and block out quite a bit of noise. Enough to keep my ears from ringing after making a dozen cuts with a miter saw, or using a sander for 45 minutes, etc. I do notice that if I wear them for over an hour, my ears get a bit sore. But nothing too bad, and like I said, I use them very often. I would definitely recommend them for woodworking, or any noisy environment.

Better than expected...
First I put my high priced, high quality earphones on, then I put these on over them and fired up my iPod. Got on my excessively loud tractor and drove of to mow my pasture enjoying the high quality sound of my music without the sound of the tractor. If you need to block out the outside world then these are for you. I had them on for 3 hours and and thats about when I started to notice them starting to become uncomfortable but I didn't care because I was done so it worked out perfectly.

Good protection
Well good news is they work great, and the price is good. Bad news is one of them came to us with the box smelling like pee from an animal! If the product wasn't in a plastic bag I would have sent it back, but it was protected in the bag and the product itself wasn't damaged. My family loved them for shooting.

Good purchase so far
I've only used it once to blow leaves and mulch them and it does what is supposed to do, it protects your hearing and is comfortable. I got a big head and it was comfortable. I don't dare to give the full 5 stars yet because I'd like to see how it holds up. I may be updating to either 5 or 3 next summer since this winter I don't think I'll be using it much.

Good product but
Very effective on cutting down the noise. Relatively comfortable for longer use. The only negative was that, when I put them on for the first time one of the metal arms came out of the ear muff and jabbed me. No damage, just a surprise more that anything. I reinserted it, and all is good now. If that hadn't happened (quality control) I would have given it 5 stars

Kids wore them 4 hours straight and loved the show all thanks to these muffs
Got these for Monster Trucks with the Kids. They were apprehensive about even staying because the background music was so loud so we ended up putting them on right away. Kids wore them 4 hours straight and loved the show all thanks to these muffs. I am getting a pair for myself for my days on the range. Can't wait. By far the best I have seen for kids and adults. Read the other reviews, they will say the same. Paid $20 a set for a 2 yo. and 4 yo. and I would pay double that and still be happy.
