Old Homes, New Life: The Resurgence of the British Country House

An amazing group of young families.
The narrative and the photos of these less well known "great houses" is lively, personal, and inspiring. The young families who have inherited these great estates all have a modern view, and balance their use as private homes, and sharing with the public, which is the only way to keep them alive. Both author and photographer have captured these living treasures, and the young families brilliantly, and this will be a book to return to many times. It is worth the investment.

Great Story Telling & fab pictures
This is a very enjoyable book describing current families adapting their old homes to current times. Most interesting is how the families seek to maintain financial viability of these home. Thumbs up to the authors.

Gorgeous, substantial volume
What a beautiful, beautiful book. I am still entranced with the photos but the text looks just as enticing and promises hours of absorbing reading. I would give it ten stars if I could! Bravo to the author, photographer, and publisher! Truly a delight to receive.

Mostly family photos
If you are looking for a book on the architecture or interiors of English Country Houses, this is not it. Most of the pictures are of family members and daily life activities, and only a handful of those photos are in the interesting parts of the houses. In one section they show a photo of a painting of the family ancestors by van Dyck and describe it as just one of the wonderful, beautiful objects owned by the family. You will have to take the author's word for it, because none of those other wonderful, beautiful objects are included in the book. Very disappointing, especially in light of the other positive reviews.

Not cheap
Not cheap, but as in all things in life one gets what one pays for.Beautiful homes inhabited by hard-working people who seem devoid of any sense of entitlement, but possessed of clear visions of their place as custodians of these wonderful properties. To my mind the book, therefore, is great value for money.
