Happy Little Porta-Freezer (so far…)
I received the 15 liter version on Wednesday, and over the past couple days I’ve been running a bunch of tests on the unit in preparation for our Big 2021 Road Trip starting next week.First, an Amazon shipping grumble: it arrived in a large Amazon box with very little packing between the outer and inner box. Looked like it bounced around a lot - but the bigger issue is the outer Amazon box had no “this side up” or “fragile” markings, and the item had seemingly spent a lot of time on its side (or worse) on the way. Fortunately, after sitting for 6 hours in the proper orientation, it started just fine.So far, I’m rather impressed. At -4 F setting and Eco setting (3.2 amps, 40 watts), it will freeze and hold ice cube trays in 4-6 hours in a hot 100 degree garage. The Max setting (4 amps, 50 watts) seems to speed things up a bit.It also seems to work well as a refrigerator - set at 35 F, it chilled a room-temperature 12-pack in 4-5 hours and then held it at 35-37 degrees overnight without freezing the contents. Again running in a hot garage comparable to a warm car. Much better than a piezo cooler (which pulls the same amps for a lot less cooling) - and comparable to a small dorm fridge (which this seems to be a smarter ruggedized version of).The low voltage cutoff seems to work correctly, but there could be added drain from the unit still trying to run intermittently at the lower voltage. I wired up a high-amp 12 volt connection tied into the ignition switch just to be safe and prevent vehicle battery drain. I may tie in a small gel cell to keep it running during brief (less than 30 minute) stops.I’m thinking it was a good idea to get the smaller 15 liter size, as it’s already too big to fit in some places in our minivan. The weight is very manageable, even with a full compartment. Our plan is to use this to continually freeze ice packs to swap into the larger ice chests, both while we’re driving and taking it into the motel room overnight. Hopefully we’ll have a lot less need to ask motel lobbies to freeze our packs or hunt for an ice machine. If the unit doesn’t get filled up with ice cream first… :)Update: the unit survived 32 days of continuous operation on our 2021 Big Road Trip. The 15 liter size is easy to bring into the motel room and plug in each night, and bring back out in the morning. I wired it in parallel with a 18 AH 12V gel cell to keep it running when we were parked during the day. This kept it running (and cold) much longer, but the battery drain meant we had to recharge the pack every night (alternator power wouldn't keep it charged). We kept 5-6 freezer packs in there and swapped them with the ones in the ice chest every 24 hours or so (if we didn't buy ice cream instead) :) Definitely worth the investment.Another update: It’s been across the US twice again, and is still running great.Another update: several more trips, including another transcontinental one - still running fine.Spring 2024 update: still running great - just went on another week-long cross-country trip.

Late Review
I waited to write a product review. I bought the AstroAI model C15 in Sept of 2023. It is used daily, and I've gotta say I do not have even 1 complaint about it. It works fantastic, I love that it's portable, you can have it in your house, in your vehicle, and any outdoors activities. I really love that it doesn't use ice. I even told my son about mine and he also bought one. I definitely recommend this item and when you do buy it, I hope you like it as much as I do.

A Must-Have for Outdoor Adventures!
The media could not be loaded. I recently purchased the AstroAI 12 Volt Car Refrigerator, for my camping trip, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. This cooler exceeded my expectations in every way. Its compact size and lightweight design made it incredibly easy to transport, while its impressive insulation capabilities kept my food and drinks chilled throughout the entire trip. While the AstroAI 12 Volt Car Refrigerator, might be a bit pricier compared to some other options on the market, its exceptional performance and durability make it well worth the investment. Whether you're a frequent camper, a picnic enthusiast, or just someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, I wholeheartedly recommend this cooler. It's become an essential part of my outdoor adventures, and I can't imagine going on a trip without it!

Very quiet, gets cold fast, well insulated and accurate thermostat
I like it. Only tested it so far to see how my car battery holds up. It doesn't use a lot of energy but I still will probably want to get a solar panel since I am only using my 4Runner's one battery (80Ah AGM).It arrived quickly but Amazon left it standing up on its end. The box has a black stripe that says Fragile, Keep Upright but nothing on the sides of the box where you would look for it. No biggy, I just let it sit upright for 6 hours before turning it on it as the instructions say. This came preset to farenheit which is nice. The Alpicool C15 according to reviews comes preset to celsius and you have to get into the hidden settings to change it. So that is a plus over the Alpicool. It looks like it is made by Alpicool but everything says AstroAI including the cardboard box and it was a few bucks cheaper. It is also a darker grey which I like better. The temperature display seems pretty accurate, more than I expected. I put a refrigerator thermostat inside and it seemed to differ by only 1-2 degrees. That is a frequent complaint of reviews of the Alpicool so I was expecting to have to adjust it in the hidden settings. So that was another nice surprise. The voltage displayed reads low when the compressor is running but is close at idle. This could be a voltage drop due to the stock wiring to the rear plug in my SUV. But the low battery cutoffs seem to be set to work correctly with that voltage drop (10.1V is the cutout on Medium). Just don't freak when you see the display reading 11.x volts, just check that against your actual battery voltage with a multimeter so you know how far off it is. Again, it may be my wiring and I will do some more testing with connections closer to the battery. The fridge feels sold and good quality, especially for the price. The compressor is very quiet. There were no weird noises or compressor rattles that I heard . That is a fairly common issue you hear when reading fridge reviews in general. So hopefully I got a good one. This must have decent insulation because the sides didn't get cool to the touch after running it at 32 degrees for 8 hours. I didn't try freezing anything yet. I started with tap water in a half full gallon jug and a metal container and the half full plastic milk gallon jug took a while to get cold. But the fridge temp was a pretty consistent 32 after less than a half hour. On eco mode I saw it go up as high as 36 on the display before dropping back down. I checked with an IR gun around the sides which were all reading the same and the air temp in the middle of the box was also 32 according to my fridge thermostat that I left inside. So it just takes time to freeze things if they start out warm. I bet if I had cold stuff in it to begin with and was just adding a few warm soda cans, they would cool down quicker. And 15 liters is a good size for short camping trips. It is light and easy to carry and I can refill it with drinks and let them cool so I don't need a huge heavy cooler. I used to have a Dometic CF40 and it was too bulky for me.I will update this review if I have any problems or have any major updates. Looks like a good product at a great price.
