Inexpensive way to add a Sgian Dubh to my Scottish kilt ensemble
I bought this not because I was looking for quality but rather to have the Sgian Dubh (black knife, pronounced "Skeen Doo") for my kilt ensemble I'm putting together. Although this isn't the best quality and has some plastic parts (handle, scabbard along with apparently some chromed plastic accent pieces) it still looks pretty good and will look good tucked into my kilt hose while I'm wearing my kilt. The blade is quite sharp on the sharpened edge. I did notice one humorous point though, the box refers to it as a "letter opener" although I've never seen a letter opener quite this sharp before...

JUST AS DESCRIBDED - WILL BE USING THIS WITH MY KILT WHEN I WEAR IT AGAIN.

It’s ok
Good for the price but be prepared to have to use glue on it. Blade is real but the rest is made from plastic. Not great durability.

Not what negative comments said
First some back story. I am sitting at home trying to recover from an upper respiratory infection and reading a book about knives and swords. During a deep moment of boredom I go to Amazon and look at knives and such. I spot the "Scottish" knife and click "purchase" sort of in a medicinal haze. A couple of days later I am looking over my orders (actually waiting for a medical supply) and I see the knife. Now a bit more clear of head I check it out and read the comments. "What have I done!" Oh well, what the heck I can use a letter opener. Yesterday it arrives and wow for less than $10.00 I did alright. The scabbard and handle are plastic, but well put together and sturdy. The spacer, throat, and chape are all metal. There is a blue "glass" stone in the top of the pommel. Now the blade. It is marked "440 Stainless China", it is a single edge with a small fuller running down about half of one side with file marks running on the top third of the blade. The blade is sharp! Sharp enough to do the "shave the hairs off your arm test." This is a good enough knife for someone wanting to top off their Highland dress without spending much money at all. As far as all the past negative comments all I can say is it may be a tale of many knives, made at different times and by different makers. I am well pleased with my $ 9.99 investment.

Sharp!
For the price, this is a nice, sharp knife. It does feel a little cheap and plastic-y, but it's an ornament more than anything so who cares. I don't plan on getting into any knife fights. It's very attractive and, I'll say it again, sharp!

Buy a real knife somewhere else.
Garbage. Except for the blade being metal, it's like a kid's toy. I could make a better knife in my garage..... I'm a woman with no metal working skills and yes I could still do better. The "blade": It was truly hard to tell which side was the "cutting" side. I went with the side that was so rough, it had fuzz stuck to it that was almost impossible to remove. The metal...ummm imagine 4 or 5 layers of aluminum foil compressed, heated, and stiffened. The rest? Eh. It's cheap. Looks nice until you hold it in your hand.

I am very, very impressed with this little blade! As an amateur collector of "weapons of old" or a penchant for a type of antiquity or timelessness, I honestly felt it was time to get a little Scottish knife to add to my wee collection! The intention for this knife, was simply to add another "athame" to my repertoire. Not only is it actually pretty damn well made, it feels good in the hand, it is stylish indeed, and is smooth; the point is sharp, and the two different edge types are what you'd expect: one side can be further sharpened quite easily enough, should you desire it. The one and only complaint, which isn't really an actual problem at all, is only a slight, tiny jiggle when it is in the sheath. Perhaps this just was the one I got. But it's so minute, it's a non issue really. For less than $20, I am Amazed at the quality of this little thing. I read some reviews, and just bought it after that. People, For the Price, this thing is most certainly A++! And you likely won't find a similar item of this quality For the Price anywhere much at all. If you want a very high quality athame, look at other places, but the cost of the item, is not necessarily the cost of magic, I'd say 😉~ I have other blades including katanas and some other knives and swords, so this is a nice addition to the smaller variety section ~ * Whether you desire such a thing for cosplay, ceremony, or whatever else, this doesn't disappoint. For the Price, it is great, and I may say this is a worthy purchase and shouldn't really disappoint those of consideration. Cheers from Canada~!
