Alaska Smokehouse Smoked Salmon, 32 Ounce

I always buy Alaska smokehouse salmon because the price is great -esecially when you need a lot for a party or group - and I love the taste. It's excellent with anything - from appetizers to adding to pasta dishes. Also, it's shelf stable so I can keep a pack in my pantry for months and know that I have it there as quick back-up for a night of friends over or a quick raodtrip.

I was expecting a dark pink dry smoked salmon that looked like the picture. It was similar in texture and flavor to any canned salmon that you can buy in the grocery store. Grey in color. Typically cheap fishy canned smell. Flavor was what you would expect from canned with an indistinct smoke flavor. Texture was overly flaky like overcooked poached or canned. Very disappointing. After draining the water off I weighed it at just over 10 oz. Of meat including some skin.

Edited- I had this product on subscribe and save. It’s gone so far downhill over last year. Wow. The taste is disgusting. That’s being kind. The color of salmon in each box I was getting was gray-ish and tasted awful. Don’t waste your money.Salmon is delicious but the packaging is just awful. I get this through subscribe and save so I’m getting a package about once a month. Every package is jacked up and the salmon is kind of folded in half within the vacuum package, making it mushy.

The media could not be loaded. The aroma, flavor, color, texture…. Everything about this smoked salmon is spot on! I’d put it up against deli smoked blue anytime!

I was REALLY disappointed when I opened the first package. The smell of rotting cat food was so overwhelming, it made me gag. I thought it would be more like the smoked salmon (Lox) I get at the fish monger. Passed it on to my boyfriend and he loved it. So I'm not a fair judge. He was really impressed as was my stepdad I also bought a box for. He liked it as well. So I apologize for not appreciating this product.

Vile, vile smell and taste. DO NOT PURCHASE

The salmon was of poor quality. Taste and texture were below average. I would not purchase again. There are other brands that are better.

The flavor is what is expected in some variants of smoked salmon. I like that it has a shelf life and does not initially need to be refrigerated. Both thb packages I received had the fillet all smashed to one end of the pouch, could use a two thirds less packaging and still have had room. There is a decent amount on congealed fluid, much like canned sausages, that some may not find appetizing. If I cannot source in stores locally again, would buy this product once more.
