Promise of the Wolves: A Novel (Wolf Chronicles (Paperback)) Paperback – July 7, 2009

Promise of the Wolves is a lovely book told from the perspective of a young wolf 14,000 years ago. Promise has a similar feeling and story to the Clan of the Cave Bear series of books, however in contrast Promise abstains from graphic sexual content - I will be happy to recommend the book to my pre-teen niece. In fact I think this is a great book to share with young people - it creatively illustrates the importance of responsible, sustainable human interactions with Nature.I loved how the author describes the character's communication through a wolf/animal perspective - body language, scents, etc. I could really imagine the wolves interacting, much like our dog and cats interact with us. I especially recommend Promise to animal lovers.Looking forward to continuing the story. I see here on Amazon.com that the second installment of Dorothy Hearst's series, Secrets of the Wolves, will be released in late August. Keep them coming Ms. Hearst!!

an amasing tail set years back of mans best friend and humans trying to get along, an epic story is told in point of view of she-wolf Kaala who grows up, loses her loved ones and learns to be pack.

So, I had ordered the first book only, because I couldn't drop the money for the combo just yet, but I still wanted to read this series again. It's a favorite of mine.Anyway, I was sent all three books in the trilogy! I don't know if this was a mistake, because I definitely didn't pay for them all, but I am willing to pay the difference!! Regardless, thank you so much! I had a bad day at work and seeing the whole trilogy together on my porch was a great start to turning the mood around. Shout outs to the sender, but again, please let me know if this was a mistake so that I can help fix it!

It's a great wolf saga for wolf lovers and Dorothy Hearst writes so beautifully you keep turning the page for more. I love the details of wolf behavior she gets accurately.

I absolutely love this series. It has an ending that made me cry for the first time while reading a book. I highly recommend reading these books if you like Wolves and the beginning of a cultural connection to them.

If you've ever wondered what animals think or how dogs became our best friends,read this book,preferably to your kids. It's not great literature but if you love animals and kids and story time together then this is your book.

The beginning was slow and a bit dry but none the less the story soon got good though it takes a while but when you get to the point of excitement you can not put this book down. Kaala's emotions are so real, you feel as if you were this wolf. There was a couple of minor flaws like the author said "i" too many times and sometimes Ruuqo's anger was a bit unbelievable. Still a book any wolf lover should try!

Loved the book so much I bought it for friends. My first friend said the download was unsuccessful so I sent (bought) it again to send to her. Success! She read and loved it too. I just sent it to another friend and sounds like she has had the same problem as the first. She can not locate the email with the book or on her device after she tried to download. So now I’ve bought the book 3 times for friends with one success.I was unable to find who I should contact about this on amazon so hopefully I can get my 2nd friend her book without having to buy it twice like before. If someone can help me with this I would be so grateful.

Love it, great novel about wolves 😀

I stumbled across the QuickBooks of this title in my local library a couple of years ago, but ended up not having the time to listen to it all. When I got my kindle, I decided to look it up on Amazon. I am so glad I did, though it has taken me another year to read it, it was absolutely worth the wait. I'm really excited about continuing on to book two, but given it's already past midnight that may have to wait until morning - morning cannot come soon enough!

Europa vor 14,000 Jahren - Kaala passt nicht so recht in ihr Rudel. Sie hat es auch gerade so geschafft dass man sie nicht schon als Welpe tötete. Denn ihr Blut ist anders. Ihr Vater stammte von außerhalb des Tals, auch ihre Mutter wurde daher verbannt. Nur sie durfte bleiben und kämpft seither um die Anerkennung des Rudelführers. Sie versteht sein Misstrauen nicht, doch eines ist klar, die Legenden sprechen scheinbar von ihr. Kann sie die Wölfe und Menschen im Tal retten?Ich muss gestehen, ich habe zuletzt als Kind ein Buch gelesen, in dem Tiere die Hauptrolle spielen. Zum Glück fiel mir dann gleich so ein gutes in die Hände!Das Buch enthält ein paar Parallelen zu dem Genre Young Adult, auch wenn ich es nicht explizit als YA labeln würde, ich denke aber es könnte Liebhabern solcher Bücher gefallen. So richtig Fantasy ist es nämlich auch wieder nicht.Ich hatte wenig Probleme in das Buch einzusteigen, die Handlung ist recht gemächlich und nicht übereilt. Für mich ist es immer positiv wenn Bücher nicht all zu schnell durchstarten, sondern einen langsam in die Welt eintauchen lassen. Für einige geht es vielleicht zu langsam voran, aber ich fand es sehr interessant das Verhalten des Rudels mitzuerleben, mit ihren ganz eigenen Bräuchen und Legenden.Denn Kaala muss schon sehr früh lernen, dass sie eigentlich gar nicht willkommen im Rudel ist, selbst andere Welpen schließen sie aus. Sie überlebt allerdings aufgrund des Willen der "Greatwolves". Sie sind die, die überwachen das sich die einzelnen Rudel im Tal auch an die Bräuche und Gesetze der Wölfe halten. Die Geburt Kaalas stimmt eigentlich gegen jene Gesetze, weshalb man sie eigentlich töten müsste.Auch wenn Kaala oft ganz schön egoistisch handelt und hin wieder mehr auf ihre Freunde hätte hören sollen, irgendwie konnte ich es ihr nicht übel nehmen. Sie schaffte es trotz allem mir sympathisch zu bleiben, das Buch vermittelte ganz gut wie sie zwischen den Wölfen und den Menschen stand, der Drang einer unbekannten Kraft in ihr und den Legenden.Es war außerdem mal ganz nett, dass die auserwählte Außenseiterin kein Überflieger war der es ständig allen beweist wie toll und auserwählt sie ist. Kaala macht häufig Fehler, was ihr aber hilft den richtigen Weg zu finden.Auch ein wenig Romantik, ganz dezent gestreut, ist enthalten. Ich vermute sogar es bildet sich gegen Ende eine Art Love Triangle, haha. Aber da die Romantik im ersten Band (Die Trilogie nennt sich "The Wolf Chronicles") wirklich zurückhaltend war, nehme ich mal an dass es auch in den folgenden Bänden so angenehm bleibt, natürlich wird sie sich sicherlich steigern. In diesem Band ist Kaala noch sehr jung gewesen. Es war aber auch irgendwie sehr süß, so etwas einmal aus der Sicht einer jungen Wölfin zu erleben. Die Art und Weise wie Tiere miteinander umgehen ist ja immer noch sehr anders als bei uns Menschen.Der Roman ist sehr naturbezogen, spricht an wie die Menschen die Balance der Natur aus dem Gleichgewicht bringen. Allerdings ist es nicht vorwurfsvoll beladen, wie es einige Bücher oft sind, die eine gewisse Moral enthalten.Kam außerdem nicht drumherum, ihn mir beim Lesen als einen Zeichentrickfilm im Kopf vorzustellen. Er erinnerte mich sehr an Geschichten wie Unten am Fluss (Watership Down) oder auch König der Löwen (nur mit weniger Disney).Werde auf jeden Fall die Serie weiter verfolgen!

Enjoyed the book, but took a bit to get into the story and think like a wolf

Excellent, very well-received. My twelve year-old animal lover didn't put this one down until she got to the last page.
