Great Canning book!
This is one of my favorite canning books. It is well played out, the print is a good readable size, there are colorful pictures of the end results, its recipes are straightforward and easy to follow. It also gives good information on how to actually prepare the food for canning. Very satisfied.

If you had no other home canning guide, this would do you just fine, for beginners or 'experts'.
I just got this a couple days ago and have been going through it, have not used a recipe yet, right away I liked that measurements are in both metric and that other system we use in North America. Also that there are tips and sometimes alternatives to a recipe. I am primarily interested in canning meat in various forms and have only recently been branching out to vegetables so I notice this book leans heavily towards fruits and vegetables, jellies, compotes, pickles, that sort of thing. That is not a negative to me, just sayin'. When the opportunity comes along, I'll be trying some of these non-meat recipes, one reason for getting this book is to expand my horizons a bit. I was not even aware of Bernardin (being in USA) until 'that woman with a gadget' on the Red Rose Homestead YouTube channel mentioned that this is one of the canning guides she believes in so thought I'll give it a try in addition to the Ball Blue Book and USDA book.

Wow! Such a great and helpful book. I’ve purchased many canning books and this is so much better. If you know how to can but are looking primarily for safe recipes, this is the book.

So far I have made 3 recipes from this book. One turned out great and the other 2 were way too sweet. I realize this is a preference, but 6 3/4c of sugar in a recipe that makes 6 8oz jars doesn’t seem correct

An excellent collection of practical recipes
I got this as one of several books about pickling, a practice I only began in 2022. I have since been exploring and experimenting with a wide range of pickles (and jams) since and this is one of the best guides I’ve found. As with similar books, it contains recipes for a wider range of food preparations, including jams, chutneys, ketchups, compotes, vinegars, and more. There are colour photos of several of the end results. One of the book’s best features is that it lists ingredients by both imperial and metric volumes. I much prefer metric as the more accurate measurement and try to avoid recipes listed in only imperial sizes. However, there are volumes indicated where weight would have been a more appropriate measurement (such as dry ingredients like sugar or salt). Each recipe has detailled notes about ingredients, preparation, and technique, as well as some tips and usage notes. While some recipes are meant for the experienced canner, others are perfect for newcomers like me. Plus is has an index, glossary, troubleshooting notes and. ingredient purchase guide. The main thing that I didn’t like was that many of the recipes were for much larger quantities than I usually make, and there are no lists for smaller quantities (for example, the traditional corn relish makes five 500 mL jars, and grandma’s dill pickles makes seven, but I might want to make just two of either). Of course, I can calculate the smaller quantities and write my notes on the page, but having them listed on the page would have been preferable (and neater).
