Perfect - studied this for grad school placement exam and tested out of the music history course
This book along with The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music History helped me test out of the music history course for my degree! I used these two books to prepare for the graduate placement test at my school. While this wasn't the most exciting read, it did contain a lot of nitty gritty details that you would learn in a class. Very informative - just a little dry.

A Must-Have Book
This outline/book is Manna from Heaven for keeping a grip on all the information in your personal library of music history books and references in the public libraries you may belong to. Fantastic and an absolutely crucial tool for me in keeping all the music history information chronicled in my skull. For anyone that truly knows the scope and magnitude of information out there on music history, this book is a must for keeping all your ducks in a row. I have 2 copies--one for highlighting and a clean copy. I've read and re-read it. Brilliant.

Good book for a general music history review!
Particularly well organized from the early music to Baroque era. Not as clear after classical era when genres and forms started to get more complicated.

Chronological Musical History
Do you know when the music's Baroque Period begins? And when does it finish? And the Romantic Period? And which are the most important composers in these and other Periods? Is J.S. Bach a Baroque composer, or a Classic composer? Which are the styles and techniques in the different Musical Periods? These and other informations you will find them in this well structured book that covers from the music of the old western cultures, until our days. Recommended for all those that want to have a concrete chronology of the events and features in the Music's History.

This book is a Godsent!
I'm currently studying for my DMA comprehensive exam in Music History, and this book is absolutely wonderful for outlining characteristics of musical periods and genres. Reading the Grout alone was an overwhelming nightmare, but this text has completely relieved my anxieties!

Great for college and high school music students
I used the "Miller outline" when I was in college as a tool for reviewing and making sure I knew everything necessary to become a good musician. I now teach at a university and am helping some of my students use this book to help them with their music history classes. I highly recommend this book.

it's okay
It's alright.. Requirement for a class. It words things strangely sometimes. I had to get used to the overly complicated way of explaining things. The pages are cheap but good for the price. Glad this book was so inexpensive.
