I have been making espresso seriously for almost 10 years. I have a couple of very nice tampers, and use a commercial espresso machine (Astoria). I am always out looking for aesthetic tamper for my own collection or as gifts as well. When I saw this tamper on Amazon, I doubted that at the low price point it would be of good quality. Nevertheless, it will make a good gift with its elegant design. But I was wrong when I received my order.+ The handle is made of real wood with appealing checkered design. Very eyes catching sitting beside my espresso machine. Nobody will ever guess it is an espresso tamper.+ It is a heavy tamper consider with a real wood handle. Tamping will be an ease with this.+ Full ripple base. It will leave some well parted concentric circles on the puck. It is believed that these circles will improve an evenly extraction and reduce channeling.+ Thick base. The base is taller than my other tampers. It helps to maintain an upright position for the tamper in the portafilter during tamping.This is what I thought of this tamper after using it after a few days. It is well balance and feels good in the hands. Pucks are well compressed, even and with beautiful imprint of concentric circles. In fact, I notice that the pucks I tamped is quite consistent with this tamper. The shots are thick and dark with golden brown crema on top. The espresso is simply delicious.Instead of giving away as a gift, I am going to keep it for myself. I am glad that I have bought this and found a gem. I recommend you not to look further if you are looking for a value for money and elegant tamper. This is it!

I was nervous buying my first tamper. Wasn't sure what I wanted and I researched it to death. I didn't want to pay $200 for one just because it was balanced in an atomic reactor or had french molybdenum balancing crystals (I made that up). I just wanted good quality at a decent price. This arrived and worked perfectly. It is quite solid, does not require a lot of strength to use. And it is visually interesting. I've been very happy with it. I have had many compliments and also bought one for my niece, who loves it as well.

For the money you can't beat this beautiful tamper. The wood sections don't quite line up as they should but with the cost you can't expect perfection. Great purchase.

It's okay. Looks cool, but the diameter of the tamper feels off and keep having channeling issues despite ordering the correct size?

I use this in conjunction with my Italian cafetière and it works perfectly! Very sturdy piece, feels nice and looks great on the counter top. Arrived exactly as the picture looks. No peeling or wearing as of this post. I’ve had it for a few months now and no complaints.

Very nice quality. Heavy and feels good, but it doesn't fit in my espresso basket. It is just a tad too big. It says I must pay $8 to return the item. Its not worth $8 to ship it back. :(

I recently acquired an espresso machine with a 58mm portafilter so I had to look for a new tamper.I was intrigued with both the appearance of this tamper, and the fact that it created small concentric circles, like crop circles, on my coffee when I used it.Whether or not the circles are a gimmick I can’t know for a certainty, but I do know that this tamper is hefty and easy to use and my shots are always consistently distributed. I do use a coffee distribution tool, which I highly recommend, with this, so really my success is with both of them used in tandem.
