Not a "how to" book
The name implies practical knowledge of how to raise pigs ~ It is basically a history and overview of the pig enterprise. It advises you to seek experts on health, feed, etc. On housing it basically states it is a necessity and provides an overview of different types. The pictures were more informative than the writing. For anyone looking for practical information on raising pigs ~ this is not the book for them.

Great Read - Great Information
Loved the book. I bought the book before my venture into raising pigs. Enjoyed reading and now enjoying my pigs. My 2 sows and barrow are now of breeding age and I am looking forward to our first litters. I just got back today from the meat processor where I had 2 pigs prepared for my freezer. Yum.

Great for getting your feet wet!
I have always wanted to learn about farming, most of all pig raising, This book is not the sum total of knowledge on the subject but, it the best start in the right direction you will ever find. I know what kind of land I need and what kind of pigs I want to raise. The list of organizations by state was most helpful. If you want to get your feet wet about this matter, this is the book for you. Eat it up but look for more data on the matter there after.

Informative book
This book is full of information we can use raising our first pigs. It was listed as used, like new, which it wasn't. Someone had underlined and hi-lighted, but we can live with that.

Raising Pigs
Book was good for over all information. I just wish it went into a little more detail on topics such as what age pigs can be bred. I couldn't find anything on this. But over all a good book for health, feed, housing, etc. I would recommend this book because it does have some very good information.
