There is variation in difficulty but it is difficult to tell at a glance (for the novice) which note sequences are likely to cause problems. I'm using this in a piano class so the tutor is picking the pieces in order of complexity. There are no guidance notes to point out things, just the pieces - so its not a tutorial book. This is the first in a series of books which get more challenging so you might want to preview what's inside if you're concerned about the level you need.

very nice
Received brand new. Lovely short classical pieces fairly easy to play (with practice!) for a relative beginner like myself. Most enjoyable and well laid out.

Full of classics but NO moderns...
This was recommended to me by my piano teacher and I can see why. It has lots of classics (Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Schumann, Schubert) but very little in the way of "moderns" but they are all generally around the level of grade 1 so not too difficult to play. However, there are at least 32 exercises so you will have lots to get through!

Title is deceptive
This book feels more like a series of sight-reading practice pieces than ‘classics’. There are in fact few, if any, real classics in here so I’ve had to look elsewhere. The printing and paper quality also feel a little cheap. Had I seen this in a shop and was able to flick trough it I’d never have bought it.

Good choice of the pieces for the young learners
Nadia Lasserson recommends this for my 5-year-old granddaughter. She was quite right to make the little one enjoy playing the piano as well as the harpsichord. I wonder how she will respond Bk 2 near future.

Great book, good service
Delivered on time, packed in a black bag so not as flat as could have been, but really good for the price, great book, many pieces used in the trinity exams so well worth having a copy

Great selection
Clear and easy-to-read printing. This book contains a wide selection of pieces suitable for pupils around Grade 1 level, with a good mixture of key and time signatures.

Disappointed
A cut-down version of the original. I was disappointed in this book. Bought it for teaching, and it is missing a number of pieces. The old series was excellent.
