This is one of the best $20 tools I didn't know I needed but it has come in very handy for a variety of purposes. I originally bought this to temp our stone in the pizza oven which it does great. Most recently I did the brakes and bearings on our 5th wheel tandem axle and needed to burnish the brakes. This calls for a target temp range of 350-400F on the brake drums when performing. I watched a lot of videos on this procedure, but few used an IR thermometer to measure the drum temps. In using this Etekcity thermometer, I was able to verify what brakes were functioning properly and one that was over-adjusted too tight and had a bearing retention bolt installed too tightly resulting in high bearing/drum friction and temperatures. There is no way I could have identified this without an IR thermometer. I have corrected the issue, but without having known I had a wheel bearing and brake assembly issue using the thermometer, it could have resulted in anything from a roadside maint issue to a failure at-speed and a resulting accident. This IR thermometer helped me avoid that. Maybe any IR thermometer could do that, but this one has been used a lot, has been reliable and was very affordable. Would buy again!

We are quite impressed with the laser thermometer!We purchase it to use with our new Blackstone because we didn’t know how high the temps would be.It worked very well in showing us the difference in temps from the center to the edges, and with one side on and the other off. Invaluable for slow roasting a brisket!

This little device is a must have for anyone who likes to cook! THe price is right, and couldn't be easier to use. I got it because I was making a custard, and wanted to get the temp right before tempering my eggs, but will use this when frying wings, chips, etc so the oil is the right temp. Having the oil at the right temp will help your fried foods absorb less oil. The LCD screen is easy to read, you can turn on the backlight if needed if you have bad vision like mine. No regret here

Perfect for cooking, I use it heat up my stainless steel pans. I shoot for 380 degrees and cook eggs so that they don't stick to the pan. Works great.

My two major use cases are in the kitchen, keeping a stovetop pan under its rated temp, and in building or upgrading PCs, making sure the SSD has adequate cooling.

Worked great for years.Also, it doubled as a Lazer toy for my cats.I love this thing and so do they.

Much easier to get the temperature.

So far I've only used this on myself and when I whisk eggs for tiramisu, but the readings have been consistent with my understanding. I look forward to using this in more recipes- I'm thinking caramel and fudge!
