Family Historian 6 Genealogy and Family Tree Software

The Family Historian 6 Genealogy and Family Tree software arrived in perfect condition and on time. I had no trouble at all installing on my PC and it seems to work flawlessly in Windows 10. It will take awhile for me to explore its vast array of features, but from what I've encountered so far, it's very forgiving and user friendly. I like the general layout of things and I think it will enable me to assemble all of my various bits of family history that I've been compiling from various sources over the years. It also has a direct link to the MyHeritage and FindMyPast websites which is very nice indeed! I give it top marks for ease of use and versatility. Very satisfied with this product!

Purchased to replace my subscription to Ancestry. Tired of all the incoveniences in processing through Ancestry. Researched programs before I purchased. Like it so far. The presentation of information makes it easier to trace families.

Just getting started with FH6, but so far have been very pleased. I've built a 12,000+ person database in The Master Genealogist, and the information transferred to FH6 with only a few tweaks. I was concerned about my list of 800+ sources transferring as well, but that also transferred, and with a little massaging, I was able to preserve my source numbering scheme as well!

I have been doing Genealogy for a few decades and I have been looking for a way to put all my collected data together in one organized program after losing my files in computer crashes. You too, huh? Well, look no further! You can do all of that and more with this and back it all up on your hard drive or other system. It does have a bit of learning curve, but then I don't read tutorials, laughing, but seriously, this is easy to use. If you love Genealogy, then you'll Love this Program!

A powerful genealogy tool whose limitations are the result of other genealogical programs, e.g., easy to download GED files from Ancestry.com, but no actual photos, documents, or stories because these do not download from Ancestry.com.

I have used Family Tree Maker since its beginning, I bought the last update in 2009 and realized there was really no substance to the updates for the cost. Now 2009 doesn't work correctly on the "new" Ancestry.com, in addition to its own buggy operation. So I started looking for a replacement. I had downloaded the trial version from the Calico Pie website and was very pleased with its operation. Even the trial version took in my whole combined family tree. I was very pleased with the interface, and since I am not a touch typist I like the fact that when I set focus to type something in the focus stays even if the mouse gets bumped. This was not the case with FTM 2009 and due to hot key interaction caused many problems. All in all my experience with the trial was so rewarding that I bought the program. Once the full version was loaded I explored the links on MyHeritage and found new information that needs to be explored. My thanks to Calico Pie for an excellent application. 5 stars since I have had no problems at all with this software.

If you are starting from the beginning, or you are exporting a family tree from a program that the Family Historian likes, or you understand how to write code, this program is easy to use. I have been using Legacy Family Tree for over a decade now, but it has been having major issues, so I wanted to change programs, and had done research. Thought I was getting a great program, but it has a lot of "Plugins" to "fix" problems with areas that should already be written into the program. Some of the "Plugins" are from people who do not work for Family Historian, therefore, how secure are these fixes?Inputting information into the program itself is fairly easy and understandable, if you have never used a family tree program and need to export it to this program.This was not a good fit for me, and ended up wasting $50 on the program and $24 on the book! Not a happy camper!

This is exactly what I wanted from a genealogy program. It is easy and versatile to use. It is entirely independent from any website. I found it a great relief to have immediate access to my records and use them as I wanted. It may be my fault but I became very muddled by the Family Tree Maker program and its close involvement with the ancestry .com website. Was I linked or not? Could I synch or not? I reached a point where I couldn't open my family tree independently from the website or use any aspect of the Family Tree Maker program. So, in desperation, I purchased Family Historian 6. And how glad I am that I did! Very highly recommended.

Great program, updates available and usually good value. I’m an old school searcher and I like printed pages, and for me this is brilliant as you can print a page for each person in their own name. Some programs use the husbands name for the wife, so he always appears on the top of the page. This one doesn’t Jane Smith is just that. The diagrams and trees are lovely as is the addition of video clips and photos.Definitely one to buy. Oh doesn’t work on Macs.

I've been using this for 3 weeks now. I did buy the book as well. Although someone with a good understanding of what they're doing could manage without it, I'd recommend getting it to explain the detail of the program. I've inserted quite a bit of 'tree' from hard copy, but this prg. allows for so much more detailed investigation and recording. It also searched the net - but both sites it uses are pay-sites. You can use the information they generate as a starting point for further investigation. All in all a useful tool for generating the generations.

After many years researching my Family History and subscribing to Ancestry and Find my Past the time has come to save all my efforts. I had the occasional problem with deleting a person but once the teething issues were overcome the Family Historian is just what I needed and it gets easier in time. I added photos and documents and you can also add things like Marriage Banns. Ye I'm really pleased with the purchase.

I bought this as a way of storing all my family tree info without having to subscribe to various websites. I am still finding my way around and so far I am making slow progress. It does not seem as intuitive as the programmes I have used before. If there are quick ways to access different members on my tree I haven't found them. There does not seem to be a way to delete people when I have found mistakes. I will have to keep working with it to see if I can make the changes I want to.
