CRF230L
2009 CRF230L Gearing Mod. I replaced the stock rear sprocket with this 38T rear and the front with a 14T (see link) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZIVB6U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This combination has worked well the last 2000 miles I have put on the bike. I calculated various rpm/gear/speed combinations. In stock set up in 6th gear at 5000rpm, you will be going exactly 50mph. With this sprocket combo(38T rear and 14T front, stock is 39T rear and 13T front), in 6th gear at 5000rpm, you will go 56.7mph (about a 7mph gain). Things changed for the better in 1 and 2 gear. I liked how low 1st was stock when offroad in some really technical stuff(following cattle paths and ruts up river banks), but now I just slip the clutch a tad more or simply go a little faster. In town, I used to start out in 2nd gear, especially if I did a rolling stop. Now with the gearing change, I never start out from a dead stop in 2nd, it just lugs too much, but if I'm rolling at all, I still use 2nd. With this setup the chain length didn't have to be changed, however, the clearance between the front sprocket cover and the chain is very small, which disturbed me, but hasn't been a problem. Top speed wise, funny considering we're talking a 223cc bike, is up from 75 to 80mph, full tuck when dropped from a plane. Interesting because I would have sworn that this thing was aerodynamically limited at 75, but I guess it just needed longer legs. I haven't seen much of an increase in mileage, and wasn't looking for one. Instead of getting 93-98mpg, I now get 95-100mpg. I used to run 48 mph on sand and 2 lane blacktop. Now I go 53-54mph. Wind really affects this bike, so if it's not windy or I'm going with the wind, I'll run 55-56, seems like a bit under 5000rpm is the sweet spot for this bike. If it's windy, the gearing change is no benefit, as the bike just has to make so much power to push it. I weigh 160 lbs. Ask questions if you have any.

Replacement For Stock
CRF230M(CRF230L)The main difference that is easily noted is that the sprocket comes in black. The color is very fitting for my bike. This rear sprocket will also fits the XR250R.

made my enduring easier to use
taking one tooth of the rear and adding one to the front sprocket made my 2009 crf230l easier to use. went from 39t rear to 38t and 13t front to 14t. took first gear from a 5mph gear to a 12 mph gear and top speed from 70mph to 83mph.

perfect for the freeway and speeds over 80 mph
