Besides using them for a wet/dry trickle biofilter, I've found them very useful for separating fine solids in my higher-flow filters ( about 5gpm ) and for preventing floating debris from entering overflow downspouts in my relatively small 250 gallon aquaponics system.They seem to work surprisingly well for creating a torturous path for water. This results in suspended solids falling out of suspension and clinging to the balls. I suspect that with the right filter design, they would do the same with a much higher flow rate. In contrast, my foam, paint strainer bag, and filter floss particle filters clog within a day or so while these have done a great job in clearing my water of solids without clogging. This filter is allowing the other filters to work for the missed or even finer solids without clogging.I had intended to use these as part of my substrate (to protect fry and keep large objects from clogging my return lines), however, they do not sink. The fact that they are useful for other applications is more of a lemons --> lemonade thing, and I'm stuck with a very large quantity of balls that won't work for my intended purpose.These also seem to have residual release agent on them from the molding machine that made them. I don't know the characteristics of this substance, but I don't want it in my fish tank. It does not seem to prevent organisms from populating the media, as a week or so in contact with the water will leave faint signs of something growing on them that doesn't come off with a shake in the water.

Well, I wrote one review already but not sure why it wasn't posted. The balls are fine and look real good. The problem is that they used the 4.5 cube box to ship me something that said 5 cubic feet. Well, right off the bat, I got cheated by .5 cube foot or more because it wasn't packed fully either.I replied to the vendor for awhile now but no response from them. Why not? Hmmm Give me the .5 cubic foot you cheated on me!!!

They do what there were made for cleaning is a breeze worth every penny. I replace these from cinder I have over 500 tilapia so cleaning became much easier. Just follow all directions and you will be good.

Timely fashion of delivery . Also , a great product to filter our pond ... Clear as it can be now !

The quality of these balls is great. I bought them for my Hayward S244T filter. It fits very well, and works very efficient.
