New Makita Rechargeable LED Headlight 18V 14.4V Body only ML800

Mediocre at best!
First off, I want to point out that I am a huge Makita fan, and have a rather large collection of their amazing tools, over 35 different tools and 16 batteries (most of which are 4ah or bigger, with the upgraded LED fuel gauge), and 6 chargers, 2 of which are double chargers..That being said... This headlamp is nice to have around.. Throw it in the toolbox and not worry about it getting broken, and knowing that you always have a battery to power it.. But aside from that, it isn't great, which is something I would expect from Makita! It feels durable, and the rubber band does grip nicely to a hard hat, but that is about where it ends. The cord is so short that it barely reaches if I clip the battery toward the front of me on my belt, and let the cord run in front of my arm and directly up to the lamp. This is a bit annoying because it can get in the way, and I can't possibly see them expecting you to clip even a small Makita battery anywhere on your clothing above the belt! Especially because of the bulky awkward size of the battery clip..That brings me to the size.. This thing is bulky! The battery clip is bigger than the battery, which I can't figure out why! and the lens, despite being excessively large and having an LED bulb, produces a beam similar to the old makita lights with halogen bulbs, and still isn't even as bright as my current Makita LED hand held light. So, I would expect Makita to at least attempt to compete with some of the headlamp competition out there, and produce a reasonably sleek and compact design that doesn't get in the way, as well as better performance with a more even spread of light!
