Waste of Money-Does NOT Work
Got tired of birds hanging out under the awning over my deck so I ordered one. Glad I didn't waste my money on 2 of them. The birds no longer gather in my tree, but have found life under my awning more enticing. I now have alot more birds than before. This so called balcony Guard" does NOT work & is a complete waste of money. Svae your money & put up a bit of screening. Works & is alot cheaper.

Works well on our balcony keeping Mourning doves away
Pleasantly surprised to find this product works very well. We had mourning doves that had already nested twice on our balcony, leaving a big mess. We installed this using the AC outlet so that we could make the device work continuously. I turned the sound up as high as it would go. These birds were very drawn to our balcony so we thought they might be hard to deter. At first they came on the balcony but stayed all the way against the far wall indicating they did not like the sound. They only stayed a minute and left right away. They tried this twice in one day and they have not returned. We installed it about four days ago. One thing I would caution you about - make sure nothing is anywhere near or in front of the device to block the sound. At first I had a plant right next to it, and then I moved it about 6-8 inches away making sure it was not out in front of it and it made a difference in how the birds reacted to it. We can't hear the sound so that's not a concern.

Poor performance
I purchased one of these last August. I have it placed on my covered front porch in the back corner, at a 45 degree angle in order to effect the entire front porch, which is 7ft x 8ft. and it is no longer effective. I wrote to the manufacturer explaining that I was unhappy with having to replace the unit after only 8 months of use. The following is their response: "So if you wanted me to replace the one bought in August, I wouldn’t be able to since our warranty are for 6 months. Also remember that the Balcony Gard is a very directional unit meaning that you would have to place it directly where the problem is. I suggest trying to place the Balcony Gard in the corner facing outward and elevating it a bit that way it covers 3 feet below and 3 feet above." The distance between where I have the unit placed and the area which is now covered with bird poop is about 6 1/2 ft, at the same level. I can't recommend this product Since, when I first bought this item several years ago, it worked very well for several years, I decided to give it one more try. I received a new unit last week. I placed it in the corner of the porch, settings on high, aimed directly at the area which the birds seem to like, and turned it on. By the next day (and almost every day since), there is new bird poop on my porch. I don't know how their technology was changed, but as far as I'm concerned, this was a waste of money.

So far so good.
Easy to set up with a long cord for distance to outlets. It’s been 4 days of bird free pooping on our balcony. I know 4 days isn’t long, but so nice to experience.

Decent deterrent, but not anywhere near perfect
This review is from my personal experience having this product for only a few days. I bought the Bird-X Balcony Gard hoping to keep pigeons and blackbirds off my back patio. Setup was easy, and I appreciate the motion-sensor activation. It does seem to deter some birds, but not all—particularly the more stubborn ones. The ultrasonic frequency is silent to humans, which is great, but its effectiveness seems hit-or-miss depending on the species. I noticed a slight reduction in bird activity, but they still linger occasionally. For the price, I expected a bit more consistency. It’s a decent option if you want some kind of deterrent, but don’t expect a miracle solution. It is essential though to prop it at least 3 feet from the ground. Initially I only put it about 1 foot and it didn't work at all.

Works, but voltage sensitive and temperature as to frequency emited. Still I am satified.
I use this as one method to keep the birds away as they were destroying my paint on my cars which had cost me about $1000 in repairs. With two owls, holographic tape, sticky bird caulk it did the job, This was the last thing I tried since all the others only got me 80% of the way. Some birds might sit on my owl head mocking me, other sit above the holographic tape. But those were only minor players. I wanted to stop birds from my neighbors house that nest in spaces in the house that should be sealed. The birds would fly in and out over my cars and the neighbor, to say the least is less than helpful. This device stopped maybe 99% of the fly overs. It is unpleasant for them to hang out near my cars now. Much less birds. To the bird, the shinny cars look like lakes and a good spot to splat bird droppings. Inside (in the back under the plastic push on cover) is a frequency control and range control, and a jack for the 9V adapter and place for 4 C batteries and power switch (battery or power jack). When it is triggered, a red led lights in the sensor and it makes as short audible twerp (plus the actual sound that continues) . I like it but there are some down sides. First off the frequency control adjust differently if you use the adapter (starts I think at the 15000 hz) than the batteries (6V) which I believe is somewhere around 14000 hz. Though it may actually be between 17.5-18.5.This is because there is no voltage regulation internally. As the batteries wear out the frequency drops from where you set it, until it finally goes insane making crazy noises. I also notice it was temperature sensitive as to the frequency (in the cold it drops) and goes crazy. Let me tell you why this important besides being annoying. There is a device named the Mosquito which is used at train stations and parking lots that is teenagers hear that is annoying and they do not hang around. This is a costly item. This device with the batteries, send out the 14000 hz signal (or 17.5-18.5) and above or lower with the batteries . So it can be used for the same purpose on the cheap and I can tell you it works. It can be adjusted that teenagers, some women, and other ages hear it. I had to have my neighbor's kid stand there so I could adjust it so he could not hear it as he could hear it 25 ft away through an open window. Those frequencies do not go through walls - only openings. As the batteries died, it would swing the frequency down back into the torture range! A food delivery person once came and he was holding his ears in pain (he was 3 ft away) and was saying what is that, what is that , it hurts, while I heard nothing. He was running away as I gave him his tip. So point is human beings can hear a tortuous sound if it is set to too low a frequency. But maybe that might be want you want. The device sold to chase teenagers costs between $300-500 so this is so much cheaper if that is your purpose. As far as bird again, I find it really does work. I have this strapped to a fence aimed over my driveway it so far with all the things I have done, no bird droppings. This device is best used with the power adapter which has quite a long cable. In my case, I am going to devise a way to run it on solar as not to deal with the batteries. The battery life is based of course on how many times it is triggered. Since people and animals trigger it, it can be going off quite a lot. Constant on, can only be done when it is on the AC adapter. OK, all said, I can say this thing does work for me. I actually bought two of them and I have not even needed to use the second one so far.

Birds love it
Birds love sitting around it. So it has failed to operate properly. Has no effect on the birds. Tried battery and ac to no avail. Followed the instructions.

We have been troubled by House Martins nesting in our open garage; I had already tried steel netting on the purlin and so was pretty desperate. The item looks like something made up at home from bits bought at Radio Shack. I wish I had seen the research that suggested that birds are troubled by ultra-sonic noise, as my friends must be deaf. If it works at all then, if you can hear the sound, perhaps maybe some birds can also. You twiddle a knob at the back until it is at its loudest. Being an enclosed space you might expect this product to work better. The IR detector can see me approaching pretty easily but while set in this mode, every bird in the neighbourhood seemed to visit, presumably without triggering, so it is now set permanently on. This means that we have now only the odd 6-8 birds messing up the cars. Over time the pitch of the noise changes so it needs to be adjusted frequently. If it were £20, it might be worth a punt; at this price it is just too expensive to try. As a back-up plan, I also bought a large decoy Falcon; that is not effective either. Perhaps birds are just not as dumb as we humans are gullible.
