OUIDAD Curl Recovery Melt Down Extreme Repair Mask, 6 Fl oz

I don't use this as intended and I don't know about any formula changes, all I know is I love this stuff and for the past couple years I cannot find anything better to replace it. I have thin when wet wavy/curly hair. It can dry naturally into a thick-appearing frizzy matted mess, or I can apply lots of product to tame it and better shape curls, or I can blow dry and straighten it (but god help me if there is 1% of humidity or a random drop of water hits my head). My curls are temperamental too though - I can't put too much, can't be too heavy, or too sticky, or too light. Basically I have a big PITA on my head. Anyways, this stuff has some magical softening/silkening ingredient that makes my hair softer and silkier and manageable and my curls more defined. Maybe it's silicone or sulfates, I honestly don't care and will put whatever ingredient on my head that will allow me to fake it like a normal person with normal hair.This stuff is too thick and sticky right out of the jar; however, if I just put a little dab on my fingers and add some warm water and mix it all over my hands and fingers they get all slick and silky and I can finagle this all into the ends of my curls shaping, scrunching, etc. So I really do use very little, but with the water it makes it soft and slick and then my curls dry defined but soft. I don't have to crunch out the hard parts like with mouse - it just dries defined and soft. I recently ran low and attempted to skip it on days I thought I could get away with not using it and the difference is so insane. I can't do my curls without this, I mean I can but why would I when they come out so much better and softer and more manageable with this magic sauce!?!? I love this stuff. I wish they made more products with whatever it is that makes this slick and soft. I'm thinking about trying to mix a little with some warm water in a spray bottle to see if I can use it as a second day spray instead of having to use my wet fingers again.

My first review of this product was about the packaging. The way I received the product from the shipper. Some of the product had seeped on top of the inner lid liner and appeared dry where some air may have gotten to the exposed product. I had not used the product at that time. I have used the product only once and was very pleased with the performance of the product on my very fine 3c/4a curly hair. My curls are about the size of a knitting needle or a pen. My curls get tangled very easy and finding a product that will help with the detangling process can be a challenge. I followed the direction for the product, it does what it says it will do. It melted away the tangles in my hair which helped with the detangling process. It doesn't have a lot of slip. I wet my hair put the product on each of the four sections and placed a plastic cap on my head. I did not attempt to detangle my hair at that time. I actually had to keep the product on my hair longer than recommended because I had an errand that I had to run which took an hour. I was not able to sit under the dryer or used a heat cap, but I love the results. I usually use a combination of finger detangle and a wide tooth comb during the detangling process. I was able to take a wide tooth comb and distribute the product through my hair without any tangles of knots, which resulted in less shedding or breaking. It is a bit pricy, and I wished that it was a little less expensive, but it works.

Dang, I wish Ouidad would quit coming up with awesome and expensive new products, because I just love almost everything she releases. This one is a winner. It smells great and it is very hydrating. I use this after every shampoo, which is once or twice a week. I also "co-wash" my hair with conditioner between shampoos, and I use a dime-sized dab of this Mask as a leave-in treatment that I comb through soaking wet hair, and then style as usual with the Rake & Shake technique and Ouidad's Heat & Humidity gel. I love how sleek and polished my hair looks when I use this mask.I don't like the jar packaging and I wish it came in a squeeze tube, but otherwise it's lovely. The package says that it warms on your hair, which I haven't personally noticed. Regardless, this is a fantastic deep treatment and conditioner. The six ounce jar is costly, but even with using it weekly and as a leave-in, I think I will be able to make the jar last a long time, at least 3 months or so.

This conditioner gave my curls lasting definition and moisture. I've used it five times and am about halfway through the jar. (My hair is pretty thick and reaches to the bottom of my shoulder blades.) I shampooed and colored my hair two days ago, applied the mask and let my hair air-dry. I 'pineappled' it that night but was tired and just slept with it down last night. When I woke up this morning it looked almost as good as it did when I went to bed! The curls on the side that I sleep on just needed a spritz of water to match the texture and definition of the rest. Best of all, I don't have to use any other products for definition or hydration. I wish it gave my curls more slip, but that's a minor drawback. My curly hair is shiny! It looks and feels so much healthier than it has in a long time. Ouidad Melt Down is definitely worth the price.

This is by far one of my favorite hair treatments because it feels like a spa treatment on your scalp. The tingling goodness relaxes and invigorates while leaving your hair silky, soft, and smooth.

I had the same experience as some of the other users… My scalp felt like it was really, really hot, so I washed it out and shortly after my hair started falling out and it’s continuing to fall out in ways that I’ve never seen before. It’s coming out in handfuls!! At this point I don’t know what to do, I wonder how many other people have had this experience and perhaps didn’t write in. I almost didn’t write a review until I saw her review and realized that something is really wrong with this product. I’m 65 years old and I’ve never had anything go wrong with my hair… Over the years I’ve had perms, colors everything you can think of but I’ve never had my hair fall out like this! It’s so depressing as my hair is halfway down my back and took me quite a while to get it this long. I just hope it grows back!!!

Such a great product and my hair is picky. It hates glycerin and very strong proteins but it loves this stuff and when I say a little goes a long way it reallyyyy does; which makes it that much more worth it!
