The latch is hard to get opened and closed
It does it’s job keeps my puppy from coming by up and down the stairs. But my 10 year old has a hard time opening it without it coming unhooked from the side.

Catch 22 Meets Einstein: How to access the instructions to open the gate?
First step: Figure out how to unlock and slide open the gate so you can get to the instructions locked between the two sides that will tell you how to unlock the thing. Honestly! How difficult would it have been to print instructions on how to unlock and slide it open on the OUSTIDE of the box, OUTSIDE of the gate or anywhere OUTSIDE of the two locked sides of the gate? I finally figured it out myself worried the whole time I was going to break something. After wading through their FIVE videos — not one of which showed how to open it — I finally found a user’s video that showed how. All that just to get the item out of the box and instructions accessed!I was pretty much done at that point but decided to see if it would at least fit my space. It didn’t. The bottom didn’t clear my baseboards so while the bottom was secure the top wasn’t. Lifting it up above the baseboards made it too hard to install. While you might be able to open and remove it one handed, it takes two hands to install it — pushing on one button with one hand while pushing on the second with the other hand. This was purchased in advance of an overnight stay by my active 10 month old grandchild. As I’m moving in two months I only needed a temporary solution, not a permanent installation. Had any part of it been easier than it was I would have kept it. It’s going back.PS: Repackaging everything for the return I realized there is a hollow cardboard spacer as part of the packaging. Hey Safety First - Why didn’t you insert the instructions and accessories in that obvious tube?PPS: I just noticed that the product page shows a piece of paper with opening instruction zip tied to the outside of the gate with the warranty card. Mine did not come with that.

Hard for 7 year old to lock
This replaced a prior model of similar design with the handle at the end where the opening is instead of in the middle. My 7 year old can open it although it is hard for her but she cannot push the handle down to lock the door in place. Sometimes if she tries real hard and grunts, she can get it to close. I am thinking about squirting some W4 40 down there but I don't want to ruin it. Any suggestions by the seller or manufacturer on how to loosen up the locking mechanism would be appreciated.

Hinges are starting to break
I really love this product just 1 problem that I’m noticing after several weeks of using it the plastic hinges are starting to crack after opening and closing the door the hinges would be better if made of a stronger material
