2015 collection. Ace's excavation of the tape vaults of Huey Meaux continues with a collection by one of the most popular artists of New Orleans R&B. After he left Chess in 1964, Clarence "Frogman" Henry recorded for Meaux on and off for almost a decade, Baby Ain't That Love collects up almost every master he cut during the period - plus four sides recorded in Memphis for Dial. The CD includes nine titles that have not been issued before. There's plenty of good time New Orleans R&B, along with some solid soul, funk, a touch of country and even a bit of reggae to keep things varied and lively.

Paret And Cagen Recordings
"Baby Ain't That Love: Texas and Tennessee Sessions 1964- 1974" contains previously unreleased material and his recordings on the Parrot and Cagen labels. Kicking off with a 1966 versions of his signature tune "Ain't Got No Home", this version is an improvement over the original and contains the frogman croaking at his very best. "The Glory Of Love" is a slow ballad that sounds like it could have been recorded by John Fred. "Saving My Love" is Clarence at his usual, and the magic in his Argo recordings is here. "Think It Over" is another slow soul ballad. We then have the title track "baby Ain't That Love". There are many good songs he recorded for Cagen label. "Sea cruse", with a reggae sound is here. "Looking Back" and "Long, Lost And Worried" are supposed to be unreleased versions, but are the exact same takes on the Argo label, so this is misleading. if you like his early stuff, this CD is equally is good and is a welcome edition to your R&B collection.

Imprescindible
Como casi todas las recopilaciones de Ace todo es ejemplar: buen libreto, generosa cantidad de música (71 minutos), sólo queda que te guste la música. En este caso a mí me encanta, puro New Orleans. Ojito es una edición limitada de 1500 copias.

Great Enjoyable Music!
This is a very enjoyable compilation of Clarence 'frogman' Henry's output from 1964 to 1974 on Parrot, Dial and American Pla-boy records (71.01 mins long). There's no huge hits here but we are treated to lots of slices of catchy what I call 'rollin' piano' New Orleans R&B in a similar vein of his idol Fats Domino. There are 3 main periods to be heard - the 'Parrot' records recording from 1964 to 1966, 4 tracks from the 'Dial' records period 1967 to 1968 and the much later 'American Pla-boy' records from 1974 plus 9 unissued tracks found in the vaults. Many of the unissued tracks are very good especially 'You darling, you', 'Looking back' and 'Savin my love for you' the only miss fire is an ill advised reggae cover of 'Sea Cruise'. The first track 'Ain't got no home' is a re-recording for Parrot records of his earlier hit on Chess (1958). The cd is accompanied by a very good 12 page colour booklet with very informative notes written by Tony Rounce with label scans and pics. The sound quality as ever from 'Ace' records is excellent - nearly all tracks are in Mono with 4 tracks in Stereo. Overall, a fantastic compilation which compliments his Chess records output very well with no dip in quality. Great enjoyable music. Snap it up as it's limted to 1500 copies. 9/10.
