Capitol Earth Rugs 27'' Primitive Round Area Rug (Barn Star)

This rug has a cute design and I like the colors. The star is not part of the braiding. It is painted on. The rest of the colors are braided into the rug. I thought I ordered washable polypropylene rugs. I also thought I ordered only one of these but two came in the mail and when I checked if I was charged for two it seems that I was. Not sure how that happened. When I opened the box I was surprised to see that these rugs are made of jute. When I opened the box there was also an extremely strong odor of chemicals. When my husband came into the room he complained that there was a terrible smell in the room that gave him a headache. When he realized it was the rugs he said to get them out of the house or wash them. I put them on gentle cycle in the washer and hoped for the best even though jute rugs normally can't be washed in a machine. We simply couldn't have that strong chemical odor in the house. It was intolerable. Before putting them in the wash I noticed the rugs came with tags that state that the rugs comply with fire retardant requirements. That must be what causes that strong smell. The rugs were ruined after being washed because they wouldn't lay flat evenly anymore. My washer still smells like the chemicals afterwards so much that even after washing the tub out it continues to smell strong. Very disappointed that the information on Amazon does not list the material the rugs are made of, that the rugs stink so strongly of chemicals that they make the entire room smell, and that the rugs can't be washed without ruining them. I just threw money down the drain with these.
