Mullan Naturals is a small company located in Mullan, Idaho specializing in pure, natural products. This is a recipe from the middle ages to ward off disease, especially the Black Death or Black Plague, which depopulated entire towns and villages for almost a thousand year period. This updated version uses essential oils instead of spices, making it much more potent to keep disease at bay. A group of spice merchants who had been given this recipe while on a trip to gather spices were so sure of the oils ability to ward off disease they would cover themselves with it before going out to relieve the dead plague victims of their worldly possessions. After being caught in the act they confessed and divulged their secret to the magistrate. Hence the name....Thieves Oil. It then became the "fashion" of the time to cover oneself with it, or at least have some with you when you went out (see photo 3/ Doctors Beak). But some of the costumes, such as the doctors beak stuffed with Thieves Oil spices, were downright creepy. Thankfully you don't need to wear one of those to protect yourself ! So get some, cover the face and body before going out for the day and you're set. Think of it as a healthy, safer version of the flu "vaccine".....which it is.
