Icons of Modern Art: The Morozov collection

Details of an important time in art history in Russia, a huge book
Regarding the Morozov Collection, it was a revelation after all these years to know about the man who made the famous commissions of Pierre Bonnard. The detail of life in the time in history particularly in aristocratic Russia when the new ideas in French art were so engaging are very helpful in reconstructing all that exchange. The Russians had a strong influence in spurring on the artists of France and this book shines the clearest light on that important aspect between the two countries at that time. My friend who studied art in France recommended this book and I immediately bought it.

Lots of color images
My current art teacher shared this link with us telling us what a great deal this was, so I bought two, one to keep and one to give as a gift. As a visual artist, I was hoping there’s be a lot of color images of the art and it does have. It’s a great value for ~$5!

Unforgivably poor quality images
I have a BA in art history and am an artist so of course I’ll read the text throughly as time permits. A cursory read so far is interesting. What I cannot understand or forgive is the poor quality of the photography. Yes the paper is also poor quality, but that’s not the reason no brushwork is discernible in any of the images. Unforgivable given the importance of the exhibition and the resources of those who arranged it.

Magnificent edition. .
Definitely anyone loving Impressionist art should own this volume and the first catalogue on Schukin collection. Lots of interesting texts and photos of Morozovs and paintings.

thoughtful design, comfortable and very high quality
fast delivery, quality text, but I was waiting for a catalog of paintings from the exhibition, but not a doctorate

could have been great...
this is one of those art books that, with a little more care, could have been great. The choice of paper and the quality/clarity of the photos/reproductions could have been better. Now, sadly, it may be a long time before another art show like this one and any related catalog is put together. Still, if you can find a copy of this book/catalog for a reasonable price, there is a lot of good information in the book. And you can find photos of some or most of the artworks in other books and sometimes online.

For $5 it is wonderful
Images and text and very in-depth with the context of the exhibit integrated. Well worth $5 and more.
