Comprehensive 2007 two CD compilation of Gillan and Ian Gillan Band tracks that spans the six year period from 1976 to 1982 during which the world famous big haired rocker had his most successful solo period. The former member of both Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, famed for his very wide vocal range, had two Top Three albums during this period and the finest cuts from these and his others are showcased here perfectly. 31 stunning highlights including the hit songs 'Trouble' and 'New Orleans'. UNBELIEVABLE
I have been wanting to get my hands on a compilation Cd by the Ian Gillan Band for a long time and at last i have found a copy. This certainly fits the bill. This is a complete history of various musical styles and its definitely not boring. It ranges from bluesey rock with let it slide, and the NWBHM tracks of Vengeance and Roller. Ian gillan is one of the best hard rock / metal vocalists of all time. The stand out tracks areRestlessMutually assured destructionLiving for the cityfor your dreamsVengeanceBite the bulletNightmareDont want the truthMr UniverseBluesy Blue Sea ( very Black Sabbath ironic as this was recorded in 1982 a year before he joined the Band )Let it slideSunbeamRollerChild in Time ( alternative version to Deep Purple )I highly recommend this to anybody who admires the great vocal range of the Maestro Ian Gillan you will not be disappointed

Best Of Gillan
This looks like a really good collection except for one big omission, the collection is called Unchain Your Brain-The Best Of Gillan '76-'82, where is the song Unchain Your Brain? That song is the most essential of all his solo tracks, this is why I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5. I am not sure who makes Gillan's compilations, but they must be braindead, not one of his proper collections has that song on it,oh well...it means you need Glory Road too...I would think most people who bought this collection, already bought it,if not, that is the album that contains Unchain Your Brain,it is a must for any fan of Gillan's solo albums. I suspect anyone not reading the tracklist of Unchain Your Brain: The Best of Gillan '76-'82 would have assumed the song Unchain Your Brain would have been included,I guess that's why one should never assume,This best of is still a good purchase,it is very good except for that omission,so good purchase along with Glory Road as well, those 2 together should satisfy most fans of Gillan's solo stuff...

a true rock great
The five stars is for some of the magnificent material on here. There are a few mediocre throwaway tracks, but you could say that about a lot of compilations. I was only about 17 when I went to see the original Ian Gillan Band and it wasn't that rewarding an experience. The jazz rock he was playing baffled many of his fans who knew what they wanted to hear. Listening to that stuff on here now, it takes on new meaning, now I'm older and more appreciative. When he ditched that band and got back to what he does best, he brought out an absolute stormer in Mr Universe. It's a shame Fighting Man isn't on here instead of one or two weaker songs, but that's compilations for you. Another couple of good albums followed, then the Purple reunion thing, and he's never looked back. One of the true rock greats.

A best of GILLAN not IAN GILLAN the band he had ...
A best of GILLAN not IAN GILLAN the band he had in the 1980,s. They had several top 40 singles and albums in the UK and EUROPE, the USA were to busy buying POISON and other hair metal bands. This is a DBL so you get alot of tracks for the about Β£3 i paid. This is just solid old skool hardrock as done by the British so well. I own all there albums BUT sometimes you just want the songs you know so well on your car stereo. BUY!

A trip down memory lane and a great addition. I love his less commercial stuff
A trip down memory lane and a great addition. I love his less commercial stuff, but am really glad to have a full selection of most notable Gillan material. Good purchase.
