Greatly superior to "caulk tape"
We used Instatrim’s ½ inch ivory trim to surround the exterior of a bath enclose. The original caulking was cracking and separating between the two surfaces. Additionally, some areas of the original caulking were raised quite a bit over the surface. The picture shows the darker trim in the center with the tub enclosure on the right and drywall on the left.At first, we looked at caulk tape products but were disappointed in that they just used a double-sided tape to stick to surfaces and did not appear to look well on what may be an irregular surface (drywall, flooring and old caulk). The Instatrim product line solved both issues. The adhesive is a butyl compound that will fill in small cracks and the trim itself installs beveled so minor surface irregularities do not show.Surface preparation is important so be sure to follow the directions. Any silicone-based caulking has to be removed as nothing will stick to it. Cleaning the surface areas with acetone or isopropyl alcohol after scrubbing away dirt/grime and any old loose caulking should work well for you. We used isopropyl alcohol as the ventilation concerns were much less and acetone can soften some plastics and vinyl. The butyl adhesive used on Instatrim products forms a good seal, but it is not intended to fill in wide and or deep cracks. We had a few of these in our project and needed to fill in the cracks prior to using Instatrim. If your project may need this step be sure to use caulking that has no silicone. Butyl or non-siliconized latex caulk will provide a good surface for the trim. Our final comment is regarding Instatrim’s customer service. It is fantastic. The company is small family-based business in Minnesota. We had a few questions prior to starting our project and emailed questions were answered within one business day: always helpful and substantive.

Prep is key, take your time, make sure you get what you ordered.
After my first use of this product in the white I was ready to give it a rousing 5 star rating. In fact, I liked it so much I ordered more in ivory to redo some caulking in a shower that had seen better days.Unfortunately, I didn’t check the ivory to make sure it was… well.. ivory. I had prepped the area, removing all the existing caulk remnants, and then pulled out the Instatrim and was “wait a minute, this looks grey, not ivory”. Sadly, now with no caulk or anything in a wet area, I had to do something, and didn’t have enough white left over from batch one. My only hope was it wouldn’t look too bad since the tile has a slightly grey tint.Well, the box certainly said ivory, so I went back here, then the Instatrim site to check colors, and all I can figure is someone put grey in the ivory box. Maybe someday I’ll redo it, but we’re actually selling the house, so it might be up to the next owner to sort this one out. Meanwhile, they'll be scratching their head thinking I'm color blind.Pros: When put in correctly, this stuff looks great. When properly prepped, there is no issue with adhering. Someone here said use a AA battery to run across after placing and pressing and that was an awesome tip.Cons: Make sure you’re getting the right color before you start installing. I wish they had more colors.Summary: All in all, I would use again, but I’d check to ensure you get what you ordered. Prep is a key here, you really need to ensure you remove all the old caulk, clean with alcohol, and there shouldn’t be any issue sticking. Spend some time with the seams (watch the vids), if you use super glue on the seams it almost looks like there is no seam. Take your time, be patience, and a sharp razor is your friend.

Easy to use and stays on for years!
What a nice product! Easy to use and stays perfectly for a long time. It is my go-to product for kitchen counter and bathroom vanity caulking.

Very good for certain applications, but not all.
Does the job well for several applications, but I wouldn't recommend it for every job, at least straight out of the box without modifying it. (More on that below.) While the product applies exactly as advertised and looks great, it doesn't always stick well even on flat surfaces that have been cleaned/prepped properly. For use with level countertops, backsplashes, etc., you can expect the best results. Still, I've often had to keep returning to press it back into place several times. Not a deal breaker, but also not the best results. The most problematic results I've had is using it for overhead projects straight out of the box (ceiling/wall, etc.) With these applications, it tends to have greater issues with failing to stick and/or staying in place mostly due to gravity. However, one solution I've had success with to overcome the problem is to first lay a very thin layer of regular caulk, then immediately apply the Instatrim over it while the caulk is still wet. I've also had good success using a thin layer of the putty-like crack fillers first, and then applying the Instatrim over that. Both methods have worked well.

Looks good but needs extra adhesive
Needed to trim a 1/4' gap between my kitchen counter and backsplash. This definitely works cleaner and easier for a smooth line than buying paste or tube grout/caulking. It did the trick and looks pretty good. However, it did take a bit to set up just due to the tight roll and the fact that the product does not stick well at all - I have tape that is stronger than this. I needed to add some contact cement to get it to stay in place, and it would have been easier to get straight with 2 people. Was still worth the purchase though as it did a clean job of closing the gap.
