Fantastic to divert the direct heat in a smoker
This thing is fantastic, it worked exactly as it should and kept my bbq at 225. It fits my smoker perfectly and it's a little thicker than I expected but that's a good thing. Seems like it should last a long time if it's taken care of well. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the quality of the product.

Good for pizza, pork butt, ribs
So far I have used it as both a heat deflector when cooking ribs as well as a pizza stone with the pizza directly on top. I was not sure if I should still use a heat deflector when cooking a pizza so just to be safe I used a cheap pizza pan underneath. Worked perfectly. I had been using the pizza pan as my deflector before buying this but when my old pizza stone cracked I picked this up when it was on sale for $20. Cranked the Akorn up to 500 and around 10 minutes later had a great pizza. As others have mentioned once you get your charcoal started get this in and close up the Akorn to preheat. If you try putting this directly into a hot smoker it could crack, plus it would immediately drop your temperature. You want this to absorb the heat prior to putting on your pizza dough so the dough goes on a very hot stone. When doing a pizza I put the dough on parchment paper and then use a pizza peel to slide it all onto the stone. The parchment paper slides right off when you're done. When doing ribs, pulled pork, etc. I cover it with tinfoil to keep it clean from the drippings. You are not supposed to wash this with soap and water.

Nice Heat Deflector
I purchased this stone for my Akorn Kamado Grill - and it definitely does the job well.I don't really cook pizzas on it - so I kinda wish it was made of some type of metal so I won't accidentally break it someday.If you cook pizzas on your grill but don't want to put a pizza stone on it - this will double as that.I don't, so if this was metal, I would feel better about its longevity.As it is - I'm worried about breaking it because I am admittedly a clumsy person.So far though, it has performed exactly as I'd hoped, and as long as I don't inevitably break the damn thing, it really helps me with my longer, slower indirect cooks.What I do is, I wrap it in foil before each cook because since it's made of stone, it will stain and retain some of the fat that may drip on it.I dunno - maybe any fat that drips on it and smokes will add flavor to whatever I'm cooking, but I cover it for now anyway.Overall - for the price, it's a nice heat deflector - I just hope it lasts me a few years.
