So Many Roads - Live in Japan

This is one of those dessert island blues records...
If you're stranded on an island, and you can only take a handful of blues records, then this should be one of them. Otis Rush is an icon in the Chicago Blues community, and this is one of the few sincere, professionally-recorded attempts at capturing his musical essence. This is not a cheap, hastily thrown together bootleg. Someone was actually paying attention to detail when this was laid down, the performance was good, he had a competent backing band, the crowd was enthusiastic and the tracks were well chosen.

One of the great ones....
This is definetly one for any blues collection, especially if you like Chicago blues from the westside. I'm not sure I agree with the comment about Otis's timing, he sounds pretty good to my ears. The band gets to work after the opening instrumental, and Otis begins to open it up....this was a great band, having Jimmy Johnson( love the Barroom Preacher ) with him is pretty cool! But it's all about that vioce, I can't hear him sing " All Your Love( I Miss Loving ) " too many times and it's wonderful here, and he just kills " Gambler Blues ", stinging guitar with his big vibrato and endless TONE!!! There's not, in my opinion, a lot of great Otis Rush albums, but this IS one of the great ones....

Best Live Otis Rush
Unfortunately or fortunately pretty much all we have from Otis in later years are live shows. It's hard to believe he isn't as well known. Now,I prefer my blues from late forties to late sixties, not to say I don't appreciate Moore, Trout, S.R.V. but this early seventies set sizzles and only fails in that there isn't more of it. If you prefer modern players this might be a great stepping stone backwards. It is a true shame Otis is unable to tour these days. Such an influence on bands such as L.Z. not to be a well known.

Master guitarist
Master guitarist. Some think his playing is off a little. I think if anything the vocals are not spot on at times. That doesn't bother me. I prefer live recordings in most cases.

Must have, but....
I have looked for this cd for years, and finally have it in my collection. All Your Love is one of my fav blues tunes. BUT... Otis does not have the most perfect timing.... Check out his turn arounds... The recording also has feedback on his guitar - not the good kind of feedback... Yes, I really like Otis and have many of his recordings. His studio recordings are more polished. This is one to have in your collection, but only if you are a true Otis fan. Pick up some of his studio recordings to get started before you get this one.

A great example - one of the MUST have blues-guitar albums from one of the true greats
I do not usually review CDs - as taste and enjoyment can be so subjective.I enjoy listening to this so much, and as there are no previous reviews I have decided to post a review. If you know Otis Rush, then you know what to expect musically. The sound quality on this recording is excellent, and it must have been a great concert to see live (from 1975 I believe). His guitar work is crisp clean and really well recorded. His vocals send shivers down my spine. If you like Eric Clapton and John Mayall - listen to this album and you will hear where styles and approach crossed over, particularly compared with the Bluesbreakers album.Highly, highly recommended!

Excellent Otis Rush Live Album From 1975
This is an excellent live album of a 1975 Otis Rush performance in Japan. The performance is first rate, with Otis Rush at the top of his game. The sound is very good. Audience noise is minimal.Otis Rush is one of the great blues guitarists. His recordings have been covered by the likes of Led Zeppelin, among others. If you are familiar with Otis Rush recordings, this one is a very worthwhile addition to you collection. If you are not familiar with Otis Rush, this album would be an excellent introduction.
