Very good book about my distant cousin! No kidding.
I am heavily involved in genealogy and have added this book to my library. I have acquired books on my descendant's ancestor's descendants to include John and Priscilla Alden, both Presidents Adams, President Calvin Coolidge,President George Washington and Patriot Patrick Henry, who as a side note, married the cousin of President Washington's wife. Also, I have ordered one book, and I plan to order others on another distant cousin, John Locke, whose writings inspired the authors of our US Constitution to include the phrase - "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness".Additionally I have also acquired books regarding the Borden and Cooke families, whose descendants include the Prime Ministers of Canada during WW1 and WW2.I find Amazon to be my prime source for all pertinent genealogically relevant books and I recommend Amazon,in all respects unconditionally. Thank you. Gayle

John Locke was brilliant.
The works of Locke, Tom Paine, The Federalist Papers, et al, should be required reading in high school, and college. Alas, the socialist administrators of our school systems would probably ban them, and support ANTIFA.ANTIFA means ANTI First Amendment!

Interesting Vintage Sattement on Liberty and Government
I purchased this book as I continue my study of the history of liberty. John Locke (1632-1704) was an Englishman who was one of the major figures in western governmental theory, and specifically, the concept of government by consent and refutation of the so-called "divine right of kings".I purchased the 202 Dover Thrift Reprint edition of this little book, and it also included Locke's 1689 "A Letter Concerning Toleration".The Treatise is a explanation of Locke's beliefs on liberty, monarchy, the origin of property rights, and government by consent of the people. Locke was read by some of America's Founders, and some of its ideas probably influenced Thomas Jefferson. Locke could be considered a proto-libertarian of sorts, although he did not take his theory of liberty as far Jefferson did -and certainly not as far as modern libertarians do. While Locke's work was very good (and daring) for the time period and political regime he lived under, his theory falls short of the ideals of the American revolution. Locke's Treatise was worth reading, and did provoke some thought on my part on one issue that I had not taken back to its base theory. As I am a "limited government libertarian" who supports the U.S. Constitution and Bill of rights, I believe that Locke left a bit too much power in the hands of the state.I found it interesting that the phrase "an appeal to heaven", which was used by some American patriots on "pine tree" flags during the American Revolution, apparently originated in this book.Locke's letter concerning religious toleration, originally published in 1689, was also worth reading. Locke advocated for full religious liberty not only for all sects of Christians, but also for Pagans, Mahometans (an old English term he uses for Muslims), and even Jews. Interestingly, Locke did not support toleration of atheists, because he felt their rejection of the concept of a god would lead them to reject all morality and then commit crime. Locke considered himself a Christian and quotes Scripture frequently. Locke does not state what if any denomination or doctrinal creed his beliefs may have confirmed to. Based on one relatively quick reading of his Letter, I would guess that he may have been some variation of Arminian Protestant. This book was written over 300 years ago, and the style of English 9and the length of sentences) is not what today's readers will be used to. This is not bad, only different. I gie this book 4 stars. This book is worth reading, but I would advise reading some of America's Founding Fathers before one takes the time to read this.

The Second Treatise of Government...(Locke)
The book arrived quicker than I expected, and in excellent condition. Very good service. It is important for my collection, and necessary to a grass-roots effort I'm involved in with others in Jackson County, AL-- the goal of cleaning out corruption in local government. Today Jackson County, tomorrow the State of Alabama, then on to Washington, D.C. When all that is cleaned up, I will have been in Heaven a long time, but my grandchildren may be able to live free!

Love this as an E-book!
I purchased this book as an e-book for my IPad as well as IPhone. I enjoy how I am able to highlight, take notes, look up words, through this! It makes reading this a lot more easy and helps me to catorgerize all the important information into different sections! I really enjoy reading this, the concepts are simple and the information that backs them up are very insightful! I would recommend this, especially the kindle version. :)

A must read
Human freedom espoused with forceful reasoning. Even though the work starts with religious presuppositions the arguments are just as valid for those espousing no religious viewpoint. This is a classic exposition of the cause of human freedom and should be read by all who value the ideals of the enlightenment and the right of all men to determine by popular approval their form of government. Most notably, Locke states that religious associations exist by the voluntary assent of their members. A radical idea for the time.

A Short Must Read
A short must read for anyone desiring to know what was bouncing around in the founding father's heads during the American revolution, and what philosophies inspired them to write the founding documents. So inexpensive, it can sit on your bookshelf while you read all of the writings we as Americans live by, which this book helped inspire. };>{>

Locke and Roll
Very nice easy to read version for my intro to philosophy class. Font isn't too small and was fine to read on the bus, in the car, while walking, etc. Locke had some very excellent ideas for the time. Great flow.

Liberté, égalité, propriété
Conceptuellement pamal. Ne pas prendre au premier degré cette histoire d'état de nature -- c'est une légitimation de la colonisation de l'Amérique, surtout le chapitre V.
