Greatest Botany Textbook Worldwide
This is the most reasonably-priced botany textbook in the USA, and can also be purchased in most countries these days. We pretty much use it throughout the United States because it's one of the only (if not, the only) botany textbooks that is updated frequently and includes plenty of information about new taxonomy. It was originally written by Kingsley Stern, one of the world's most reputable botanists, and probably the reason why it is in its 15th Edition. The new authors (Bidlack and Jansky) were close friends with Kingsley Stern, and have done a marvelous job in keeping the book up-to-date and entertaining enough that students will actually read the book. The new information on medicinal plants (particularly marijuana), molecular biology, and ecology makes this textbook all the more enjoyable. I especially appreciate the appendices, that include details on gardening, medicinal plants, and more information on taxonomy than any textbook I know. The accompanying Lab Manual is the only Botany Lab Manual that outlines what needs to be done to prepare labs and includes tear-out sheets that can be easily graded and ensure students are learning. This is a botany textbook that will continue for many future decades and has become the standard in teaching botany worldwide.

An authoritative, well-written treatment of plant biology, but lacking references
With this text now in its 15th edition, one would appropriately ask not whether is is a good one, but why. One thing immediately noticeable is its reader-friendly appearance, with colorful photos, snippets of intriguing facts in boxes, and clear writing. I enjoyed just browzing through it, picking up a fact or two here and there. But make no mistake: this is also a rigorous text, with detailed explanations and scientific jargon---hard going at times. This BTW is the international edition, as the cover proclaims, meaning not much to Americans except the use of metric scales and, happily, about half the price of most all comparable texts published solely in this country. The copyright is 2021, not 2020.The major disappointment was the lack of references, either at the end of chapters or the end of the book. It's as if the authors were saying "take our word for it." Unfortunately, this is common in other biology texts too. At least some recommended readings might have been given. Hence my rating of "4".

Does not come with Connect code, McGraw Hill does not support books sold on Amazon
The book looks good but loose leaf pages are extremely thin. College course requires Connect option and book did not come with Connect code. Customer service from McGraw Hill said they do not support books sold on Amazon. Have to pay additional $60-100 fee for Connect option.

Does not come with connect code
Does not come with a connect code for online access. Have to purchase the code separately. Would have been cheaper to purchase from McGrawhill since I have to spend an additional 100 to get the code
