I took Joan's Craftsy class on making clothes for 18" dolls and wanted some more of her patterns. I prefer patterns that are downloaded or on cd, so that I can print them off with my own printer at home. This book comes with the patterns on cd. There are lovely photo examples of each outfit with plenty of written instructions and illustrations to get you through each step quickly and easily.

but gave it a four because though I love the patterns
Designs are 5-star, but gave it a four because though I love the patterns, they are not printed out in books like others of her series. Instead they come on a disk and must be calibrated to the right size, a problem for us old folks! Not sure I'll be able to do it, but am working on the problem.

Fine patterns, love the pattern CD
Joan Hinds doll clothes pattern books are always my favorites. I go back to her designs again and again. This latest one is no exception. Who wouldn't love a mermaid...... I am so glad to have the included pattern CD. It saves me the bother of photocopying the patterns. And, for those of you who haven't worked much with CDs, there is a helpful set of instructions about how to print out the patterns.

Excellent instructions for making doll costumes
I made doll clothes. Lots and lots of costume ideas, and each one had a great picture. Instructions were detailed and very clear.

costume dress up.
The witch pattern has not been corrected in this edition. I think I can figure out how to do it. I am going to cut two upper skirts and two underskirts and sew them together. the pattern only calls for one upper and one lower skirt. I think there should be a front and a back lower and upper. I wish ms. Hinds had corrected this pattern as she said she was going to do nearly two years ago. I would not have gotten this book if I knew the pattern had not been corrected.I have not looked at the other patterns but I am beginning to be suspicious of them based on other reviews.Other doll patterns I have bought let a number of persons test the patterns before they were published. I think Ms Hines should consider letting people test these patterns before they are published.

Fabulous patterns, great value
This is her best book yet! I own many of Joan's books, and preordered this one as soon as it became available . Wow!!! She has outdone herself on this one. I have so many costumes cut out from this book already and I KNOW they will fit the dolls perfectly because Joan's patterns ALWAYS fit!! Buy this book, you won't regret it.

While the 'Contemporary Wardrobe' had more fun options, and I love those outfits
I bought two books of doll costumes by Joan Hinds. While the 'Contemporary Wardrobe' had more fun options, and I love those outfits, too, I preferred the format of the pattern pieces for the 'Dress Up' book. It is much easier to manage a CD of pattern pieces, just printing off those for the outfit being sewn, instead of struggling with all the tissue paper pieces which are so easily damaged. For both books the sizing was excellent. The clothes, when made, fit perfectly.

I love how Joan Hinds writes her books
I love how Joan Hinds writes her books. They are well thought out and easy to follow. However I had some difficulties with this particular book. Joan usually includes tissue patterns or templates in her books, however, in this book, she has included a CD that contains the patterns. I had a terrible time trying to print the patterns. The instructions say to use 100% scaling but when I printed them at 100% scaling, the patterns would not fit the page. I tried different scaling sizes which took a lot of my time, paper and ink. I eventually figured out to use the default scaling that came when I opened the pattern PDF file (152%) which finally worked. Some of the patterns had to be joined which also makes it more complicated for newer sewers. If I had realized how difficult this process would be I would not have bought this book. Not up to Joan's usual standards!
