Just be aware this is completely different...
I have been a licorice nut all my life, and thought I would love this, especially with all of the positive reviews. After giving it a chance over several days, I find this salty licorice much too salty, with a long lasting unpleasant aftertaste. I appreciate the quality ingredients, and the fan base in Denmark, and now other parts of the world, but I thought a review from the other side of the fence might be helpful to some folks. Most licorice is overly sweet to me, but this just goes way too far in the other direction. So you'll know I'm not averse to strong / salty flavors, I love anchovies and blue cheese, but couldn't get used to this. My guess is the Lakrids sweet licorice, and their other licorice derivatives are excellent. If you're like me, you'll likely want to try the salty to taste for yourself, but wanted to give a an alternative view.

Try It - You May Like It
I bought this after seeing it featured in an Andrew Zimmern shows on which it featured. The show made it sound like something that would gag a maggot. I'm here to tell you, "Not so, my friend." If you like liquorice at all, I think you'll find this pretty tame; and quite tasty.

Licorice heaven
I really want to reorder 20 more jars of this product. If you love licorice, you will LOVE this product. I actually saw a travel show about Copenhagen and they featured the most favorite treat Danish people love which is licorice. We are not talking about the sugar laden confections in our stores here. This licorice is different. A true licorice flavor. No wheat, not overly sugared. At first taste, I was in. I highly recommend it.

Very very salty
To people on the fence about trying this - consider this.I find this to be extremely salty. You taste more salt than you taste anise root (i.e. black licorice). Don't get me wrong, it is good, but it needs like half the salt it has. The dark chocolate and sea salt coated ones have the perfect amount of salt. This one is just too salty for my pallet, and to give you an idea of how much I love salt. I put salt on meat lovers pizza. It's a bit weak on anise which is a letdown. If this had the amount of salt it does, and enough anise to make your lips burn like you had a shot of absinthe, it would be absolutelly perfect. Alas, it has a weak anise taste with a crap ton of salt. Might as well run some Australian black licorice under the tap and dunk it in a bowl of salt. After giving it several chances, it has gotten better. Just be aware that that first chunk probably will be more salty than anything.

It's the real thing in a premium form
When I first heard about salty liquorice I thought people were adding sodium chloride to liquorice and I thought that a bit strange. It turns out it's ammonium chloride not sodium chloride. And, it has an unusual salty taste. I tried it, experienced the taste, and now I love it. This is a tad expensive but it clearly is a premium product and delicious. People all over northern Europe and Scandinavia love this kind of liquorice and now there is a growing number of Americans singing its praises as well. Give it a try if you're at all curious. But, don't write a bad review because it has a salty taste. :)

Great candy, for some
Bought these for my father who very much enjoys authentic black liquorice and he loved it. I myself don't care too much for liquorice so I thought they were disgusting. They taste exactly how you think salty liquorice would, and seem to be pretty high quality. If that's what you are looking for, this product is great.

They grow on you
At first try I didn't like em. Cursed my friend in Norway for telling me to get this brand. I thought they didnt have much flavour but kept eating. After awhile they grew on me. I started to enjoy the subtle distinct ammonium flavour its balanced well with very sutble licorice flavour. They also last quite a bit longer when sucking on one not chewing. If you're looking for a strong licorice flavour this isnt for you. I may order them again but they are pricy for what you get. The jar is 2 1/2" dia x 3" tall.

Horrible
Took a chance on the salted. OMG! Brushed teeth, and tongue, immediatley. Tastes a little strange. Worse part is, also sent some as a gift. Imbarassed, because tastes terrible.
