Real Steakhouse Crust at Home
**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 – Real Steakhouse Crust at Home** I’ve owned a lot of grills over the years, but nothing has ever delivered a sear like this Big Horn 1500°F infrared grill. It heats up in about four minutes and hits a level of heat my regular gas grill or cast iron just can’t match. The crust it puts on steak looks exactly like a high-end steakhouse broiler — dark, crispy, and perfectly caramelized without overcooking the inside. The stainless steel build feels solid, and the design keeps the heat tight and focused where it needs to be. I reverse-seared a ribeye, then finished it under this burner for about 70 seconds per side — honestly, it looked like something you’d pay $50+ for at a restaurant. Even my family noticed the difference right away. Cleanup is easier than expected. The drip tray slides out, and I just line it with foil to make it almost zero effort. Yes, it does use propane faster than a normal grill, but at 1500°F, that’s expected. This is a **finishing tool**, not a slow grill — you need to keep an eye on it unless you enjoy carbon. The included pizza stone is okay, but I swapped it out for a **cooking steel**, and that made a huge difference. With the steel, I get a fast char on flatbreads and personal pizzas, almost like a mini salamander-style oven — it actually surprised me how well it handled them. **Bottom line:** If you’re serious about steakhouse-quality crust and want that blast-furnace finish without spending $700+ on a Beefer or Otto Wilde, this is one of the best purchases you can make. Worth every penny.

Over delivers for the price. Obvious bargain
I purchased this for the finishing step of reverse searing steaks however after researching recipes, I believe that I will be using it for dishes such as French onion soup and seafood. I was surprised by the quality of the stainless steel racks. They are more well built than the pictures show online. I purchased a stainless steel cart to sit it on as well as a basic cover since it will be outside under my covered porch. Time will tell how it holds up to the elements. Setup took less than 10 minutes from unboxing to test firing. Please be aware that it needs to be ran for a bit to burn off the oils that are on it when it arrives. It will smoke for 8-10 minutes during that period. I believe that this over delivers in term of cost vs quality. I would recommend this to anyone looking to fill a particular need in the cooking process. It can work as an all around cooking grill, however it will really shine in the searing function.

An excellent addition to cooking capablities for high temperature searing
This is essentially a propane fueled outside salamander. It contains two high temp infrared burners which together create a large surface of very high temperature. This allows searing of meat in a way and to a degree that isn't possible for me without it. If you cook using sous vide, you know you need a way to sear the meat to finish it at the end for a few minutes. This is the tool. It gets HOT. It claims 1500 degrees. That's probably exaggerated, but my thermometer confirms it is well over 1000 degrees. Consider that. Most folks have an oven with a broil setting around 500 -- so this is more than twice as hot as that. I love that it can be use outside given that this kind of cooking creates smoke. Folks that have outdoor grills will still appreciate this because it is still much hotter, and the heat is mostly radiative, not hot circulating air as in most grills. It heats up ready to cook in 2 minutes literally also unlike large outdoor grills. I was impressed with the build quality, the trays and racks are very heavy solid stainless steel. It creates a bit of a mess for cleaning, but all the parts come out, and as I use it more, I'll perfect covering various parts with aluminum foil to speed cleaning. The price is about 10% what I've seen other salamanders with similar capabilities. Overall this tool allows me to cook in a way I had no way to do before -- at much higher temperatures than any other tool I have. My steaks are absolutely the best I've ever made. I haven't even started experimenting with fish, but I'm guessing this kind of high temp grill is the key to that restaurant grilled fish with crispy skin. Overall this was a wonderful addition to my cooking tools that I think just about everyone could benefit from. It likely could even replace the need for a large grill for 1-2 person households by using it with the food farther from the cooking elements so the heat would be somewhat diminished. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who cares about crispy, browned, or blackened foods that require high temperature searing.
