Beautiful thematic travel guide that even includes some minor league stops
Moon does a series of thematic travel books to locations in the USA that are all really good. There are the road trip books, the highlights-from-every-state guide, and this excellent book. This guide is so much more than a directory of ballparks and teams. It is a guide to all things baseball travel, its history, traditions and attractions, and even more than that. The book is really a guide to all the cities that are home to a major league team. For example, you get a guide to Comerica Park and the Tigers, but also to nearby attractions and listings in Detroit. The guide interweaves baseball into fascinating trips and tours. It features cities that you might not otherwise find a travel book for, such as Detroit, which deserves your attention not only for baseball but for so many other things. What this book is most certainly not is an encyclopedia of statistics and facts, or a detailed history book. Don’t buy expecting that. It is a travel guide. The nice color map that comes with the paperback includes information about each of the ballparks such as capacity, build date and mascot. If these things are important to you (they are to me), you should buy the physical book since that information is not explicitly stated in the text. While the book is a travel guide, and includes listings of accommodations, restaurants, shopping and sights, many of these things are included in relation to their proximity to the parks or in relation to the sport. The listings are not anything approaching a comprehensive list. Here’s something special. Not only do you get baseball goodness for all 30 major league teams, but also side trips to nearby cities that include interesting minor league teams, such as Toledo and Louisville. How fun is that?!I'm from Houston, but I'm using this book to plan a baseball trip to St. Louis. It's the perfect book for that. The author gets Houston and Baltimore (my used-to-be team) dead-on which gives me confidence that his coverage of other cities is equally accurate. The “be a fan” (local traditions) and “your best day” (fun things to do on game day) sidebars are really cool, and give you an idea of how it feels to be part of the home team, making a trip that much more enjoyable. I’m certainly not an expert on all the teams or their traditions, so I appreciate these additions. Keep in mind that a book like this can’t be perfect. Local fans are obviously going to know more about their own teams than a book like this can know, but it’s a great introduction for those of us looking to be a fan for a weekend, a week, a month, or even a season. The book gets your feet wet. It’s a fantastic resource for that.Practicalities are not an afterthought. The suggested itineraries are authentic and realistic. The schedules proposed in the “your best day” sections are a bit hurried, but I suggest you plan how far out during the day you want to get your baseball day started, backtrack that number of hours from first pitch and, bang, there’s your suggested activity for the day. One more thing. For fans visiting from abroad, the book assumes you already understand the game rules.

"Take me out to the Ball Game and more"
When the "Ultimate Baseball Road Trip" was published in 2012 the bar was set high for similar publications. Moon's" Baseball Road Trips" by Timothy Malcolm has raised that bar even higher. This guide is a must for anyone setting out on their own baseball stadium pilgrimage...like the American Express Card..."Don't leave home without it". Malcolm divides the guide into regions of the country and Canada so that you can easily set up visits to the ballparks of the East Coast, Great Lakes, Chicago and the Midwest, etc.... In addition to in-depth information about the each of the 30 major league stadiums and their immediate surroundings side trips to notable attractions nearby such as baseball related sites (Field of Dreams, Baseball Hall of Fame, Babe Ruth's gravesite), National Parks and museums is included. This guide has something for everyone from fans of the game to fans of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". The text is accompanied by excellent maps highlighting the stadiums and the cities in which they are located. Finally as a life long Phillies Phan I was thrilled to see Citizens Bank "The Bank" Park among the Top 10 stadiums. See you at the ballpark....GO PHILLIES!!!

An amazing book!
This book is incredible. Ever since I got it about a month or so ago, I have pulled it off the shelf to look up all kinds of facts and attractions regarding these baseball parks. Also, the reviews of close by restaurants and attractions is also priceless. I would highly recommend this book to any baseball enthusiast.
