Buy Fundamentals of Fast Swimming: How to Improve Your Swim Technique by Hall, Gary, Murphy, Devin (ISBN: 9781735441405) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Fantastic book - The book is really informative and provides a great amount of technical information in simple easy to understand writing. The only negative I have is the pictures are in black in white and not very clear. Review: Opened my eyes to technical adjustments - Very clearly written and based on thorough analysis using The Race Clubl's cutting edge tech. I am a Masters swimmer who learned my technique in the 70's and 80's and this book has opened my eyes to some opportunities to get faster through technical adjustments. The book contradicts some of my long-held, old-fashioned beliefs about how best to swim and has provided many ways to improve my technique - I feel I am swimming better from having the changes to my stroke. I am yet to race since making the changes but my training times, especially on sprints, have come down. The links in the book to video material are very useful.

Swimming textbook
This is an amazing book that every coach, swimmer and keen parent should read. Gary Hall Senior has written the book using an evidence based scientific approach as expected by a medical doctor. It covers all aspects of swimming (four strokes, dolphin kicking, starts and turns). The description is clear and detailed and the most common swimming mistakes are highlighted. Several drills are also proposed to correct the different aspects of swimming. The only weakness of the book is that it is printed (at least the UK version) in a cheap paper with low resolution with and black pictures. Despite this, I still highly recommend the book and give it 5 stars.

Excellent review of competitive swimming strokes by who many consider the most effective technology and data based stroke efficient/speed analyst and coach, Gary Hall, Sr. No printed book can keep up with new evidence, but this is a solid, detailed guide nonetheless. It is up to date on the fundamentals and more.

Great book to read through and get actionable support to improve swimming technique. Sadly the quality of the publishing is not up to the standard of the content. The following simple and standard book topics are lacking: Contents page has no page numbers only chapter numbers No index at the back, with a lot of cross chapter references The black and white print and printing quality not paper quality is not optimal for the graphs and images shown. A reprint with good publishing standards would be well worthwhile

Using speed, acceleration and force sensing technology, synchronized to video, the authors rigorously analise drag, propulsion and technique in milisecond resolution. The drawn conclusions provide insights that can be translated to my own swimming. Just by reading the book I dropped my 25m during practice by one second from 15 to 14 seconds. I will keep focusing one nuisance at a time following the insights in the book hoping to improve further. I do have a solid background in physics, which makes understanding the concepts in the book easier. While the authors do previous the required intuition this book might not be for everyone as it is quite technical. I would recommend reading the sample to see if it is for you. Highly recommend for any swimmer with some understanding in physics or a little more technical approach.
