This is my first metal detector, so I don't have anything else to compare to. But now that I have it tuned, I'm having good success. At first, I was getting way to many tones and at all three frequencies. Once I turned down the sensitivity (maybe 3 notches?) and filtered out Iron, each time I get a beep I am always able to find the metal object that it found. HOWEVER - I was frustrated with how long it took to find the object inside the plug I dug, so I took some advice and got a pinpointer. Honestly I don't think I would enjoy doing this without one. My husband and I decided to take up a new hobby and start searching the beaches in our area for treasures..I really like that this metal detector utilizes an LCD panel that actually gives you an estimate about what is it is detecting before you take the time and effort to dig into the ground. The LCD panel is also useful in many ways, tells you how your battery life is looking. I especially love that feature as there’s nothing worse than wanting to use a device only to find it is dead.Setting the detector up was very easy. You really just have to connect a small handful of parts, insert 2 9V batteries, and you’re good to go. The package even contains a small foldable shovel for digging up your loot. A nice touch.I really like that it has two modes, and detects between different types of medals, so you can focus on your favorite.I now know that I have a powerful tool to use if myself or a loved one ever loses a valuable piece of jewelry.Really I’m happy with this purchase! Totally worth the price! It’s a Durable machine, and designed to last, also very comfortable to use.. lightweight and easy to maneuver

This machine works. Altho it cannot tell the difference from an alloy coin to a silver coin, you will still dig the tone, it's definitely not a pro model, and if you plan on actually getting into this as a hobby I recommend a different unit, the quest x5, few more dollars, but much better machine.If you have kids this one is great!

This detector has two ways to inform you that metal has been detected. The default mode will beep with different tones which the instructions say correspond to the type of metal detected but really just appears to be random. I used it with the metal shovel that came with it and it only picked it up about 50% of the time. Each time it detected the shovel it had a different beep indicating a different type of metal. This mode is useless. I would have returned this item if this was the only option for metal detection.The other mode is Pinpoint (PP) and it does work. It's basically a proximity beep so the closer you get to an object, the louder it gets.In terms of depth, it is good. It says it can detect metal about 9" down but it appears to be able to go even further than that, at least a foot.The construction is ok. It clicks together without tools and comes apart easily. It's light weight and comfortable to use.I'm not sure if i would recommend this detector. I never expected it to be able to distinguish different types of metals but that mode doesn't seem to even be able to detect metal reliably at all. Metal detection technology is really simple so I'm always surprised when I see detectors that are very expensive. Regardless how expensive a metal detector is, there is NO DIFFERENCE in its detection technology, the principal is the same. The difference is in the strength of the signal and size of the head.

My husband bought me this as a gift. Ive always wanted one. As soon as the weather gets cooler, I'll be searching for my pot of gold. :)

This thing worked great…Once. The second time I used it, the on/off button stopped working. The only way to run it off was to remove the batteries. It came back on as soon as they were reinstalled. I returned it and bought a Bounty Hunter instead.

I bought this to find irrigation gate valves on a commercial property, using schematics of the property I could define a 500 ft area to search, and I found most all of them, brass has a unique low mid high tone response on "all metal mode", at least I think it's unique.It has saved me time and money and already made back the cheap investment. Some of the valves found were actually deeper than 1ft. Size of the object matters. I'm happy with this investment and would recommend it to anybody needing to find gate valves that they know are less than a foot deep.
