Roadcraft: the police driver's handbook

The book that every driver should read and develop their skills. As advanced/blue light drivers, this is their bible. It is what sets the standard for learning advanced driving skills and knowledge on both driving standards, handling techniques, vehicle control and overall skills and underpinning knowledge improvement whilst getting the best performance from the vehicle(s) they drive – including increasing fuel economy! It can also be a refresher for those drivers who have not updated their knowledge on regulations and skills and are used in the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) for all levels of driving skills up to Masters (IAM) and Gold (ROSPA).

I was prompted to pick up this book after seeing the stat about 80% of drivers believing they are 'above average' which, if you have driven on British roads recently, is pretty laughable. I may not be the best driver but I think with the aid of this book I can get a lot better. There are a number of ideas in this book which have changed the way I think about driving, the way I drive and, most importantly, should make the chances of me being involved in an incident significantly less likely. It is a simple, well-illustrated book which although aimed at the emergency services is useful to ordinary road-users.

Needed for a course. The details are all there that are require for blue light driving. A useful reference book but a dull read.

I've had earlier editions of this book, so knew what to expect. It's as I expected it to be. I found it useful, but I imagine anyone buying it will have some knowledge of its content.
