Orajel dissolves in just a few minutes and just blends with the mouth's saliva. It has a refreshing taste, though, and it instantly makes the tooth or gum halfway numb for, in my experience, about fifteen minutes, but it provides instant and long lasting pain relief. I probably averaged about six hours between applications, but it is different for everyone, I would assume. My opinion -- I used it every day for four months, to the point when the pharmacy ran out I personally asked the pharmacist to order lots more. When they couldn't seem to keep it in stock and went to Amazon, where you can get anything anytime.

I recently suffered a month-long bout of burning mouth syndrome causing a lot of pain between my gums and my dentures. I must have used the 3X Orajel probably anywhere up to ten times a day. I just didn't use a lot at one time. And I'm still here, having suffered no ill effects from it . It was the only thing that helped.
