It really does attract (nighttime) mosquitos to the Flowtron. (Tiger mosquitoes in the daytime: not so much.)
I was skeptical this would work to attract mosquitoes to the Flowtron bug zapper. After all, mosquitoes are primarily attracted to heat, CO2, and moisture - in other words bodies and their breathing. They care not one whit about lights, so I wasn't sure the Flowtron Octenol would do anything to pull mosquitoes in.But the Octenol does work. It has to - there is nothing else about the Flowtron that would be of any interest to a mosquito. Yet, once a week when I use a small twig to clean off the electrified rails of bug parts, there is no shortage of clearly identifiable mosquitoes fried & stuck to the rails. The makers of Octenol claim that it mimics other scents in human breath that mosquitoes like; the proof of the pudding is stuck in my trap every week, so they made an empirical believer out of me.Alas it only attracts the night-flying black mosquitoes where we live. I'm grateful for that, which is why I gave it 5 stars. And as final proof we can go out in our yard and on our deck and not be bothered by mosquitoes at night. The daytime is another story however. We also have the day-flying Tiger mosquitoes around here, and clearly the Octenol is doing nothing for them as they bother us during the day. But the Octenol doesn't claim to attract Tiger mosquitoes which is why I'm not taking off any stars. Lurex is advertized to work on the Tiger mosquitoes; alas Flowtron doesn't sell the Lurex bait in a form factor compatible with their trap.Nevertheless, I'll take mosquito-free evenings, and be grateful for that.FYI I change out the Octenol cartridges once a month; that seems to work fine. They have a double-sided piece of sticky tape in each individually wrapped package, which you can use to mount the bait underneath the Flowtron trap.

Great product but does not adhere to Flowtron
I have the Flowtron light which works somewhat well but really is excellent when the attractant is used. Warning! Wear gloves when using this stuff as if you get the attractant on your hands the mosquitoes will follow you everywhere! I place the cartridge in the bottom of the grate and it seems to hold there, even in the rain. Every time I tried to adhere it to the bottom of the light, per instructions, it just fell off especially if wet from rain. Overall I would recommend as it really cleared the mosquitoes away from my deck. The light is around the corner from the house and away from deck and patio.

Pricy, but still worth it overall.
These are effective, and seem to help cut down on the mosquito population in the yard all right, but I would have one knock to offer as far as this specific product goes. The two sided sticky backings seem to ware out before the cartrage does, and I've many times found them in the grass somewhere near the bug zapper, and I'm not sure at one time or another I haven't mowed one up with my lawn mower because of this. However, I would still recommend these because they do seem to be effective at attracting musquitos toward the light, as when I change the cartrages, I find them loaded with dead ones, and we seem to most times be able to spend more time in our yard because of that. I'd like to see these offered with a lower price, but still think they're a good value.

not as effective
I bought my zapper a few years ago and remembered how the first time I even started opening the attractant bag I had mosquitoes all over my hands. It was amazing. I didn't use it often since it was used at a vacation cabin. I decided to stock up again but the first bag that I opened - although was quite powerful smelling, the mosquitoes didn't come swarming. Although the zapper does continue to kill mosquitoes, so it does work. My frustration with this product is there is no way to affix it to the attractant pocket at the base of the zapper because (at least the first packet that I opened) did not have the double-sided tape required to attach it. I kind of forced it into the grate but would have preferred the correct tape. I see from the photos that tape is included so maybe it was just missing in the bag I recently opened. At this price point I hope the rest have the correct tape included - although I may end up getting my own tape since I do remember that I would find cartridges on the ground within a few days in the past.

Perfect
Product arrived earlier than expected. It's just what will be needed for summer.

This is what makes bug zappers effective!
Bug zappers, in and of themselves, do not attract mosquitoes. (Moths and other light seeking insects are attracted.)Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges, when heated, give off a scent that is similar to humans. They come flying in and the zapper finishes the story. I purchased a zapper from amazon that came with one of the cartridges. At first I didn't see anything to write home about. However, 5 weeks later the story was quite different. I unplugged the zapper and had to use a 1/2" paint brush to sweep the dead bugs from the elements. I was "wowed" by the volume of roasted insect that I removed! I replaced the cartridge and plugged the zapper back in. It's working again killing off pests.

Pretty useless and very expensive.
Field studies were conducted in the Upper Rhine Valley to determine the responses of mosquitoes to CDC traps baited with either CO2, octenol, light or paired combinations of these. Among eight mosquito species caught, the attractant effect on trap catches was studied in the four most abundant: Aedes vexans, Ae.rossicus, Ae.cinereus and Culex pipiens. Traps baited only with light or octenol caught few mosquitoes, whereas many were caught by traps baited with CO2 alone or in combination with either of the other candidate attractants. CO2 baited traps, with or without light, caught the most Aedes. The combination of CO2 and octenol attracted most Cx pipiens, but this apparent synergy was not significant. Using a caged hamster compared to CO2 as bait in a CDC light-trap with only intermittent fan suction, the hamster attracted less mosquitoes than CO2 emitted at a rate of 225 g/h on days 1 and 2, whereas on days 3 and 4 the smell from the hamster's cage became significantly more attractive than this rate of CO2 for all species of mosquitoes.
