The Art of Embroidered Butterflies

Good picture book/No patterns
This is a beautiful book about embroidery butterflies. It doesn't have patterns to create a butterfly. I still enjoy the content and will review the photos for future projects.

Lovley.
The work is incredible. The book is interesting. The photos are varied and highlight the work well. There is a lot of text that covers the artist workspace, materials, butterflies in nature, the artist collection of butterflies, inspiration for the work, and the artist's works. The downfall of the book is the lack of instruction for how to create the butterflies. There are a few minor instruction and as someone who has a lot of crafting experience I plan to take a stab at it. Given the verbose descriptions of everything, the lack of instructions makes me feel as if the artist is reluctant to share the steps. Wonderful images. The art is fabulous.

A poetic book
This is NOT a "how-to" book on embroidery. It is a beautiful story of the author's exploration of a relatively few English butterflies, all of which she has embroidered magnificently. The photographs are excellent, And the settings for the butterflies are wonderful. These are as realistic as they can be. However, the text is flowery, and gets repeated in several places - I found this annoying.Nevertheless, I will keep this book, and browse through it from time to time. Maybe someone will write a "how-to" book on New Zealand and Australian butterflies one day.

Disappointed
I thought there were real instructions to make the butterflies, but there weren't.

Exceptionally beautiful book
This book is a treasure and a must have for skilled embroiderers. The artistry is amazing, the pictures almost don't do the creations justice. Well worth the money and time to study her techniques.

No instructions!
I have been gathering books on embroidery in order to learn a new skill, but this beautiful book is best used as inspiration only. I was surprised that there are no instructions at all, only photos, so it is not useful for anyone wanting to learn these embroidery techniques. The work is stunning, but I am really not sure what to do with this book. It was too expensive to just add to the shelf, never to be used, so it will have to be a gift to someone who already does work at this skill level.

Very beautiful book
Took too long after Christmas to be a gift, but otherwise very easy to order

Beautiful book.
Jane Hall has once again produced a beautiful embroidery book recording and creating works from her amazing vision of butterflies. This is not a book for those embroiders who want instruction. This is a book of inspiration and love of delicate, living creatures. If you love books where the author explains their mission and provides pictures to guide the reader to understanding of their love for their craft and the methods they use to achieve this craft, then this is the book for you.

Butterfly book
Although this was a beautiful book it was not what I was expecting. I would have liked instructions as to how to make the butterflies but it showed how the author made them. It was very technical and complicated. The pictures were beautiful and it was an interesting read.

Beautiful book but....
Beautiful book, great artwork and love the writing about butterflies and her stories. That being said, I thought it would be more explanatory on how to complete the butterflies. It does give a very very very basic "explanation" of how to complete the butterflies, but it could not be more basic of a "guide".I am still going to keep this based on the beautiful work and her stories. I also think based on the close up images of her butterflies and with some other stumpwork books I can figure it out myself.
